Native Reptiles and Amphibians July 16 at Huntington
The Huntington City-Twp. Public Library and the Mississinewa Lake Corps of Engineers encourage kids in grades one through six to join park ranger Maggie Kubina at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 16 at the main library for an introduction to the common amphibians and reptiles found in Indiana.
Those attending will learn about their life cycles, habitats, and how human impact on the environment are threatening their survival. There will be a special appearance by Salvadora the Salamander. This program is free and open to the public. Registration is appreciated, but not required. Call 356-2900 to sign up for this event. The HCTPL Main Library is located at 255 West Park Drive, Huntington.
Get Checking begin July 17
The Purdue Cooperative Extension Service in Allen County continues to host the -Get Checking Workshops for the Bank On Fort Wayne initiative. This workshop is for clients and families who have never had checking or savings accounts at a bank or credit union, mismanaged accounts at banks and credits unions so those accounts are now closed without committing fraud, or have accounts, but continue to still use predatory lenders.
Workshop dates are July 17, 1-5 p.m.; Aug. 5, 5:50-9:30 p.m.; Sept. 11, 5:30-9:30 p.m.; Oct. 21, 1-5 p.m.; Nov. 12, 5:30-9:30 p.m., and Dec. 12, 1-5 p.m.
Workshop topics include an introduction to the program as well as Choosing an Account Right for You; Managing Your Account; Keys to Successful Money Management and Credit.
All workshops will be held at the Allen County Extension Office and are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required.
At the completion of the workshop, the participants will receive a certificate that will allow them to open an account at a participating bank or credit union. A $50 incentive is available for opening an account, if qualified.

Cherry Pie to be Auctioned July 18
A homemade cherry pie made, donated by Helen Witte of Jefferson Twp., will be auctioned at the 4-H Livestock Auction on July 18. Proceeds will go to the Wells County 4-H Foundation for the fund to build new rest rooms at the 4-H Park.
The Auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. The sale order will be: Beef, Dairy, Dairy Beef, Sheep, Dairy Feeder, Goat, 4-H Foundation, Poultry, Swine, and Rabbit.
Engraved Silver Coin to be Auctioned
July 18
A silver coin engraved with “2013 Wells County 4-H” will be sold at the 4-H Livestock Auction on July 18. The coin was donated by Mr. And Mrs. Rolland Meyers. Proceeds will go to the Wells County 4-H Foundation for the fund to build new rest rooms at the 4-H Park. Garry “Crusty” Crosbie Cancer Benefit July 20
A Cancer Benefit will be held for Garry “Crusty” Crosbie July 20 from 6 p.m. to midnight at Dee Dobson and Mike Hall’s Pickle Lounge and Northside Lanes at 1776 Independence Pkwy. in Hartford City.
Garry has Stage 4 lung and liver cancer. All proceeds will go to help the family pay for his medical bills and other expenses.
There will be a bowling tournament, a 50/50 raffle, bake sale, silent auction and more. For more information call Barry at 260-824-4399.
