Party in the Park Feb. 3
The Fort Wayne Sports Corporation’s (FWSC) Annual Party in the Park fundraiser Feb. 3. Proceeds from the benefit will go to the American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana, Charis House and the FWSC. The event will take place in the main suite overlooking Parkview Field from 6 to 9 p.m.

The informal program includes a sports memorabilia auction, award presentations, gourmet hors d’ oeuvres, a cash bar and a chance to mingle with high profile sports figures from around Fort Wayne. It is available to the general public through advance reservations.

Individuals interested in attending the event can RSVP for $75 per person or $65 for FWSC members. Organizations are also welcome to make reservations.

Parks Department offers knitting class
Bluffton Parks Department will offer knitting classes. Dates are Feb 15, 22 and 29 from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost is $10 due the first night. Bring a size 7, 8 or 9 needle and cotton yarn to make a dish cloth or learn on our practice yarn.

Optimist Club Tri Star Basketball Contest Jan. 28
Wells County girls and boys ages 8 through 12 (before March 1) may participate in the Bluffton Optimist Tri-Star Basketball Contest Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Boys and Girls Club at 1410 S. Wayne Street, Bluffton.

Registration and warm up will begin at 10 a.m. The contest will start at 10:30 a.m.

Winterval at Science Central Jan. 28
Science Central will participate in Winterval Saturday, Jan. 28, with half-price admission, liquid nitrogen ice cream, glacial gak and more.

Pancake & Sausage Brunch Jan. 29
Hoagland Area Advancement Association will sponsor a pancake and sausage brunch Sunday, Jan. 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hoagland Pavilion.

The menu will include fresh whole hog sausage, all-you-can-eat pancakes and a drink. Cost is $6 for adults, $3.50 for children ages six through 12 and free for children age 5 and younger. Carry-outs and bulk fresh pork purchases will be available.

Family concert by The Phil & FW Ballet Jan. 29
On Sunday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. the Fort Wayne Philharmonic will present a Star Family Concert at Auer Perfomrnace Hall in Rhinehart Music Center on the campus of IPFW.

“Firebird: Princesses and Fairy Tales” will feature the Fort Wayne Ballet with David Ingram, as principal dancer and choreogrpaher for the concert. Christopher J. Murphy is director and narrator and directing the orchestra will be the Phil’s Assistant Conductor Sameer Patel.

A pre-concert Instrument Playground will begin at 1 p.m.

Bethlehem Lutheran Fundraiser tonight
Bethlehem Lutheran will sponsor a K105 Hoopsters vs. the Tigers alumni basketball game tonight, Jan. 18. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Game will start at 7 p.m. Cost is $3 for adults and $2 for students in grades one through 12.

Halftime entertainment will be the Ultrazone Sumo Wrestling. Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to wrestle. Mad Ants cheerleaders will be at the event. Autographs will be give for a small donation.

Free admission to Science Central for Treasure! opening Jan. 21
Science Central will officially open their newest traveling exhibition Saturday, Jan. 21, with a formal ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. Speakers during the event will include Geoff Paddock, Fort Wayne City Council member. There will be free admission from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. to celebrate the opening.

Sign up for Master Gardener training by Jan. 27
The Purdue Extension Service in Wells County will hold a Master Gardener Training Session during the winter-spring of 2012.

This program will involve 14 weekly classes beginning in February. Classes will be held on Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. A wide range of gardening and landscape topics will be covered, including: flowers, trees and shrubs, vegetable gardening, plant diseases, insect pests, lawn care, pesticide safety, plant a soil science, and wildlife management. The fee to participate is $120, and includes all reference materials and supplies. Participants who complete the training program must commit to serving 35 volunteer hours doing some form of educational or community activity.

Currently, the Master Gardeners work with school classes or outdoor labs, city parks, Ouabache State Park, garden tours, flower and vegetable shows, farmers’ markets, library programs, and nursing homes.

Bluffton Boosters to sponsor Italian dinner on Feb. 4
Members of the Bluffton Athletic Boosters with be host an Italian chicken dinner Saturday, Feb 4 before the Hall of Fame Basketball game.

The meal will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Tickets are $8 and are available from any athlete or at Daniel’s Jewelers.

Deadline Jan. 31 for senior dinner
New Hope Lutheran Church will again host its quarterly senior citizens’ dinner for anyone in the community age 55 or older, on Thursday, Feb. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

Ed Higgins will perform, and Jody Heaston, a naturalist, will return.

A freewill offering dinner will be served by the ladies of New Hope. RSVP 622-7954 by Jan. 31.

AC Pizza Supper fundraiser Jan. 20
Members of the Adams Central Classroom Teachers' Association will sponsor a pizza supper before the Adams Central/Bluffton High School boys' basketball game Friday, Jan. 20, in the Adams Central cafetorium from 5 to 7 p.m. A la carte menu items will be pizza from Pizza Hut as well as salad, desserts and beverages. Proceeds from the supper will be used to fund scholarships for Adams Central seniors who are planning to major in education.

Master Gardener Classes forming soon
A new Master Gardener class is forming soon. The classes are taught by extension educators from several counties, possibly professors from the Horticulture Department at Purdue, and "seasoned" Master Gardeners.

Mad Ants game night Feb. 12
Bluffton/Wells County Night at the Mad Ants game will be Sunday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. at the Coliseum in Fort Wayne.
