Round Barn Festival June 9-11:
The 41st annual Round Barn Festival will be held June 9-11 on Main Street in Rochester. Several blocks of big tents will feature arts and crafts, foods, dances, free entertainment, contests, athletic events, a golf contest, and a parade Friday evening. Bus tours will feature round barns, a restored one-room school, and the Fulton County and Round Barn museums. Fly-in breakfast at the airport Saturday. Bluffton Parks Art in the Park June 10:
Children ages two and older are invited to enjoy free crafts for seven consecutive Fridays starting June 10 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Washington Park, weather permitting. Parents need to attend with children under age six. Crafts usually take 20 minutes to complete. Call 824-6069.

Inner Healing Conference June 10-12:
An Inner Healing Conference, “Saved, Healed, Delivered,” will be offered June 10 from 7 to 9:30 p.m., June 11 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and June 12 from 2 to 5 p.m. (practice sessions) at Covenant Chapel at 3550S., State Road 1, Buffton. Cost is $40 for couples and $30 for singles. Price includes a copy of Freedom Tools by Andy Reese.

Pancake & sausage breakfast June 11:
All-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast to support missions will be held Saturday, June 11, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Christian New Light Church at corners of West Washington and Baldwin streets. Cost is $6 per person. Basket Making Class June 9 in Berne:
Deb Gerber will lead a Basket Making Class Thursday, June 9, at 9 a.m., at the South Adams Senior Center.

Participants of the class will have a choice of baskets. Needed supplies include a tape measure, sharp scissors, a pencil, a towel and a spray bottle of water. All reed and materials to make the baskets will be pre-cut and furnished for you. The class size will be limited to 12 people. Call 260-589-8877 by June 6th.

Lions chicken barbecue fundraiser June 12:
Zanesville Lions Club annual chicken barbecue fundraiser will be held Sunday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Carry-out only. Pick-up is at Zanesville Lions Community Park, 3088 W. Vanhorn. Half chicken is $5.50, and baked potatoes are $1 each. Tickets are available from any Lions member, Davis Restaurant in Markle, or at the ballpark concession stand. What's Up

Wet, Wacky Wednesdays this summer at the pool:
The pool will be open for evening family swim on certain Wednesdays during the summer months from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $1 per person over age five.

Dates are June 8, July 6 and Aug 3.

Summer Coloring Contest begins June 1:
Children ages 12 and younger may pick up a coloring page at City Hall or download it at www.blufftonindiana.net for a chance to win a special prize.

Participants should finish coloring by June 30 and return it to the Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department office at 128 E. Market Street. The winner will be announced shortly after. For more information call 824-6069.

Grandpa and Me Build a Toolbox June 5:
Join us at the Kehoe Park Pavilion for a fun afternoon of building and bonding Sunday, June 5, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Grandpa needs to call and register their grandsons at 824-6069 before June 1 due to limited enrollment. Rain site is the Bluffton City Gym.

Bring a hammer and $5 the day of the event.

Sign up for Kids Camp:
The Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department will offer two-week, half-day camps for students who completed kindergarten through third grade.

Campers will participate in tennis, free play (including snack time) and swim lessons between the hours of 9 a.m.-noon either June 6-17 or July 11– 22.

Call the park office at 824-6069. Cost is $30. Space is limited. The Parks Department can arrange transportation to the Boys and Girls club at noon for lunch and continued activities.

Science Central will hold a sneak peek and ribbon cutting for Science Central’s newest classroom on Friday, May 27, at 10:30 am. This classroom has been sponsored by the Grainger Foundation.

Youth suicide panel discussion May 31:
A panel of concerned professionals and adults representing Youth for Christ and Life Matters Counseling will lead a discussion on suicide and its underlying causes Tuesday, May 31, at 7 p.m. at Life Community Church, located at 428 S. Oak Street, Bluffton.

The discussion will focus on the trends in the community and among the youth of today.

Those attending will be shown ways to identify early warning signs in youth. Discussed will be root causes of thoughts and behaviors that lead to such tragic events and how to pray to help those struggling with it.

CAC’s road trip to Wabash on June 9

Historic Charley Creek Inn in downtown Wabash will be the destination for all who would enjoy sampling luncheon in the hotel’s upscale restaurant, “Twenty,” on Thursday, June 9.

On this excursion offered by the Creative Arts Council of Wells County, guests will visit the hotel originally known as Hotel Indiana in downtown Wabash designed by Lafayette architect Charles W. Nicol and opened in 1919.

Today it houses dining areas, a wine and cheese shop, guest accommodations and a satellite gallery of the Hoosier Salon.

The menu for the “Twenty” restaurant features wraps, salads, pizza, pasta, soup and sandwiches.

The tour is open to the public with a $3 registration fee due by June 3 to reserve a space. Participants will depart from the art center parking lot at noon, returning by 4 p.m. Costs of lunch and shopping will be paid on site individually by each guest. Hog Roast Benefit May 22:
A hog roast will be held Sunday, May 22, at noon at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Bluffton to benefit Floneta Welsh, who has been diagnosed with two liver diseases. She is on the waiting list for a liver transplant, which will take place in Rochester, Minn.

Registration for Ride for the Cause will be from noon to 1 p.m. at $10 per bike. First bike out at 1 p.m. Last bike in at 3 p.m. There will be a 50/50 drawing, a bake sale, country music concerts from 2 to 5 p.m. An auction will be held at 5 p.m. Proceeds from this benefit will assist with medical bills and other expenses. Floneta Welsh fundraiser May 21:
Team Burger King will sponsor a tournament fundraiser for Floneta Welsh Saturday, May 21, at 9 a.m. at Lions Park in Bluffton.

There will be prizes, vendors, a 50/50 drawing, ball shot and more.

Genealogy Society to meet May 21:
The Wells County Genealogy Society will meet Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Old Rock Creek Cemetery located on County Road 300N, west of Murray on 300N.

Please bring a sack lunch and lawn chairs. Water will be provided. Bring any tools to help clean the area. A short meeting will be held and we will also be taking pictures of the tombstones.

Free Saturday at the Muncie Children's Museum:
Come celebrate the opening of our Make Believe Theater during our Free Saturday on May 21 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Muncie Children's Museum.

Kids can create masks and top hats. Joining us for the event will be members of "The TAG Team" from The T.A.G. Art Company of Fort Wayne.

In the afternoon, "Ms. A." will offer a variety of face paintings for kids of all ages. In the theater, "Mr. A." and "Mr. G." will be presenting "SmART Drama!" a 30-minute program taking place at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. This workshop offers the chance to learn about acting . Psi Iota Xi Scholarship available:
The Alpha Eta Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a student majoring in speech and hearing therapy or any area of the fine arts and who will be entering either the junior or senior year of college in the fall of 2011.

All applicants will receive consideration, but students from Wells County will be given preference over equally qualified applicants from other counties.

Sheriff reserves hosting fundraiser May 21:
The Wells County Sheriff Reserves are offering pulled-pork sandwiches this Saturday to raise money for additional laptop computers in county patrol cars.

Tickets for the lunch, served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of South Main Street just east of the 4-H Park, are $6. Lunch includes a sandwich, chips, pop and a cookie.

Tickets are available at the jail, from any reserve officer or may be purchased on the spot. Drive-ups are welcome.

Joe Collins benefit May 21:
A benefit for Joe Collins will be held Saturday, May 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the First Church of Christ at 909 W. Spring St. in Bluffton.

A pulled pork meal will be served. There will be a live worship music and a live auction.

Proceeds will go toward medical expenses Joe incurred during a recent, critical lung infection ,which resulted in hospitalization and surgery.

The Wells County Public Library will hold a beginners genealogy workshop in the Indiana Room at the main branch on Thursday, May 19, from 6:00-7:30 pm. Vi Tester and Meredythe Fritz will give a quick tour of the Indiana Room, followed by hands-on research tips using the books, microfilm and databases. The goal is to have attendees experience an actual search to educate them of the various resources available when working on their own family histories. Must be registered by May 18th to attend. Sauder Village Commemorates Civil War May 15:
To help remember the Civil War and to review the impact the war had, Sauder Village will hold a lecture series and open a new Civil War exhibit in the museum building. The Civil War exhibit will open Monday, May 16, with an open house at 5 p.m., before the start of a special Civil War lecture.

This first lecture in the series will be presented by Dr. James Bissland at 7:30 p.m. at the Sauder Heritage Inn. He will present “Blood, Tears and Glory: How Ohioans Won the Civil War.” The lecture is free and open to the public. Call 800-590-9755.

Antique Car Gathering at Sauder Village May 14:
Antique car collectors from throughout the Midwest will in Archbold Saturday for the annual Antique Car Gathering at Sauder Village.

Historic Sauder Village is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and each Sunday afternoon from noon to 4 p.m. The village is closed on Mondays, except holidays. Admission is $14.50 for adults and $7.50 for students ages 6-16. Children five and under are always free with family, and Sauder Village members receive free admission for an entire year. Again this season, children 16 and under are free every Sunday!

Poetry due by May 10:
A $1,000 grand prize is being offered in a poetry contest sponsored by Rainbow Fine Arts.

Poems of 21 lines or fewer on any subject and in any style will be judged by the contest director, Dr. Jack Carroll. The contest is free to enter and open to poets of any age. Circus coming to Montpelier May 10:
The Kelly Miller Circus will come to Montpelier May 10 for two shows, one at 4:30 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m., at the Montpelier Motor Speedway. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children. Tickets the day of the show are $15 for adults and $7 for children.

There will be a free showing of the circus raising the tent at 9 a.m. on May 10.

The Bluffton-Harrison Elementary School PTO will host a rewards night at Wendy's Restaurant in Bluffton Tuesday, May 10, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Wendy's will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to the PTO.

Warren Alumni Banquet May 14:
The alumni of Warren High School will hold its annual banquet at the Knight-Bergman Center in Warren May 14. All former students, teachers and friends of the Warren School can attend. Mother's Day garden gift workshop for kids in Huntington:
Huntington City-Twp. Public Library and Huntington Area Master Gardeners will present a Mother's Day make-and-take gardening craft workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Main Library. Kids ages 4 through fifth graders are eligible to participate. Participants will decorate their own flowerpots, listen to a gardening story, and fill their decorated pot with gardening soil and a plant to give away for Mother's Day. The First Church of Christ will sponsor a fish and tenderloin sandwich sale Saturday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Villa North Mall in Bluffton. D&D Fish Fry will provide the fish and tenderloins. Members of the First Church of Christ will provide baked goods for sale.

Proceeds will be used for the summer children's ministry programs, which are open to all Wells County children.

Kite Day May 8 in Kendallville:
The Mid-America Windmill Museum will host the 10th annual Kite Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at 732 S. Allen Chapel Road (County Road 1000E).

Hoosier Kiteflyers will be on hand to help kids build their own free sled kites. Every child 12 and under will also receive a free personal pan pizza.

A small admission fee will be charged for those over age 12. It includes an admission to the museum.

What's Up

Bake Sale May 5:
Wesleyan Heritage Academy and House of Hope - Hope Academy will hold a bake sale from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Simply Chic.

All proceeds will benefit high school students attending the A.C.E. International Convention.

Port-a-Pit Chicken Benefit for Matthew Scott May 6:
A port-a-pit chicken benefit for 15-year-old Matthew Scott will be held Friday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to until the chicken is gone at the Walgreens parking lot in Bluffton.

Proceeds will go for medical expenses for a broken leg. He has no medical insurance. Thrivent Financial is also a sponsor of the benefit.

Rummage & Flea Market May 7 at Hartford City:
A rummage and flea market will be held Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Blackford County 4-H Fairgrounds. Anyone interested in setting up can call 765-348-3213.

Free Mushroom Hunting Seminar May 7:
A free mushroom hunting seminar will be presented May 7 at 8 a.m. at Saint John Family Worship Center at 2771 SE Mulberry St. in Vera Cruz.

The Wells County Public Library’s Good Things Book Club will sponsor a coffee tasting at the Bohemian Bean on Monday, May 9, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Deadline May 10 for Wells County Extension Homemakers summer trip:
The summer three-day trip of Wells County Extension Homemakers will take place June 15-17 departing from the 4-H Park at 6:30 a.m. on June 15. The trip is titled "Wisconsin’s Boats, Bridles, and Bakers.”

The tour includes motorcoach transportation, two nights lodging at Quality Lodging w/baggage handling (1 pc.), 8 meals (3 breakfast, 3 lunches, 2 dinners), and attractions.

What's Up

Summit City Chorus in concert May 7:
The Summit City Chorus will perform “Love Letters Straight From Your Heart” Saturday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Concordia High School.

Shrub and Plant Auction fundraiser May 7:

The event is sponsored by Blackford County 4-H Fairboard and True North Landscaping.
