Holiday auction at Portland’s Arts Place Nov. 20
On Friday, Nov. 20, Portland’s Art Place will hold their 33rd annual Holiday Benefit Auction.
Door sill open at 5 p.m. and the auction will begin at 6 p.m. Admission is free to the public. Free refreshments will be served throughout the evening.
Items going up for bids will include vacation getaways, gift items, collectibles, art work museum passes and more. All proceeds will be used to support Arts lace programs including Arts in the Parks, ArtWorks, MusicWorks, exhibits and more.

Autumn Adventure Oct. 30
Bluffton Park’s Department Autumn Adventure will be held Friday, Oct. 30 in Bluffton.
Kids can dress in their favorite costume and come to the city gym from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Walk through the spooky decorations and collect treats!! 
Downtown Trick-or-Treat hours will be from 5 to 6 p.m. and the outskirts of town will be 6 to 7 p.m. 
Businesses or clubs that would like to hand out candy in the gym can call the park office at 824-6069 for table space. Plan for an attendance of around 1,500.  

Crochet classes offered in November
The Parks and Recreation Department will offer crochet lessons in November. They will be held on Thursday nights Nov. 5, 12 and 19 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in City Hall (enter glass door on West side of building.) Cost is $12 per person and is open to beginning and advanced students. 
Those attending should bring a size “h” hook with them. Yarn and instructions are provided. Registration is required by calling 824-6069.

11 FW potters to hold exhibition Nov. 7-8
“Just a Bunch of Potters” will be the 15th annual holiday pottery exhibition and sale on the weekend of Nov. 5-7 at the North Pointe Woods Club House, 8202 Riveroak Dr. in Fort Wayne.
A Friday night, Nov. 6 reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. and hours on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 & 8 will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no admission charge.
Participating potters will be Kimberley Rorick, Kristy Jo Beber, Steve Vachon, Sue Davis, Jean Barile, Cynthia Ballinger, Dug Phillips, Joseph Pelka, Sarah Thompson and John and Angie Platt. Rorick is a Wells County resident and participated in the recent Artist’s Studio Tour in Wells County.

Charles Knox Exhibit begins Nov. 9
Arts Place, Blackford County Arts Center, will be exhibiting the art work of Charles Knox Nov. 9 through Dec. 18. 
Knox is known for his colored pencil drawings and has received several awards for his work. 
The public is invited to a free reception at the art center Nov. 22 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Nifty Knitters to give out free hats Oct. 28
Members of the Nifty Knitters of Murray Missionary Church will give away free hats and headbands at Kate’s Kitchen at 116 S. Johnson Street in Bluffton from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The hats are free to anyone who needs one for the winter. All sizes of hats will be available.

Homemade Card Class Oct. 29
The Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a Homemade Card Class Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at City Hall in Bluffton.
Angie Honegger will teach those in attendance how to create beautiful cards. Cost is $8 for 3-4 cards. Cards will be simple, elegant, and punch art along with easy techniques thrown in to the mix! Turkey Shoot at Willshire Nov. 1
The Willshire Sportsman’s Club will sponsor a Turkey Shoot on Sunday Nov. 1 starting at noon. It will be held on the club grounds located two miles east of Willshire, Ohio on SR81.  Only 12 gauge shotguns will be permitted and shell will be furnished. Youth shoots for children, aged 16 and under will be held. Only 20 gauge shotguns will be permitted for the youth shoots and shells will be furnished. A lunch stand will be available. the public is welcome.

Swiss Heritage Holiday Bazaar Nov. 7
Swiss Heritage Village and Museum will sponsor the 37th Annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov..7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at South Adams School in Berne. A professional photographer will also be on site for holiday portraits. There will be soups, sandwiches, pies and apple dumplings available for lunch.  Admission is $2 for adults and students get in free. Proceeds will help support the South Adams Athletic Association and Swiss Heritage Society.”

Myaamia Traders Days Nov. 7 & 8
Myaamia Traders Days will be held Nov. 7 and 8 at Miami Chief Jean-Baptiste de Richardville House, Bluffton Road in Fort Wayne. Admission is free and open to the public.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8. Visitors will find Native American vendors displaying a variety of original art, crafts, wood carvings, bead work, and pottery.  
On Sunday there will be a book signing by nationally recognized author Helen Frost.   Food on hand will include a bake sale, buffalo stew, fry bread and Indian corn cooked over open fire.  
There will also be a silent auction. Proceeds from auction and outdoor food sales support Miami Aid for Education Scholarship for Miami youth grades K – 12.

Needle Felting at Hartford City
The Blackford County Arts Center, located at 107 West Washington Street, Hartford City, is now accepting registrations for a needle felting class on Wednesday, Nov. 4  from 9 a.m.-noon. 
Needle felting is a process which uses barbed needles to interlock wool fibers to form a more condensed material. Carol Tropf will be teaching the class. This class is open to the public and limited to six people. The cost is $35 without tools or $30 for students with their own needle felting tools.
A basket making class will be held on Monday November 9th and 16th from 6-9PM. The instructor is Diana Seelig. The project is a market style basket. The class is limited to 12 people. Cost is $45.

Radio Contest Oct. 24 & 25
Members of the Wells County Amateur Radio Club will be involved in a worldwide DX competition from the Wells County 4-H Park. It will begin Saturday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. and continue through 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the food pavilion.
The purpose of the test is to establish voice contact with as many foreign amateur stations as possible during this period. Contact with U.S. stations is also permitted. Many local “ham” operators are expected to participate in the event.

USF ‘s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Nov. 6-15
As part of the University of Saint Francis celebration of its 125th anniversary the School of Creative Arts will present the rock musical “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

Holiday show at Huntington’s theater Dec. 3-20
A Holiday Show will be presented at the New Huntington Theater during the weekends of December featuring vocals by professional New York based singers.
The “Vegas Lounge Style” crooner entertainment will be paired with a holiday themed buffet dinner. Theater-owner Joel Froomkin will be the emcee.
Buffet and show tickets are $49 while the show only ones are $35. There will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening shows from Dec. 3 to Dec. 20. Knight-Bergman Annual Luncheon Oct. 25
The Knight-Bergman Center Board of Directors will sponsor their annual fund raising luncheon on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
The menu will include pork loin with apricot glaze OR herb crusted chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll and butter, cole slaw and dessert. Drink choice will be tea, lemonade, or coffee. 
Charge for adults is $8; children, ages 5-12, is $5;          and children under age five are Free.
Proceeds go to upkeep and operation of the Knight-Bergman Center. 

LiGHT business meeting Oct. 26 at WCPL
At the LiGHT fall business meeting, to be held on Monday, Oct. 26, the members will be selecting the recipients of grants for programs benefiting women and children in Wells County..
Twelve groups have submitted proposals for funding of a wide variety of programs. At the business meeting, that will begin at 7 p.m. at the Wells County Public Library meeting room, a representative from each of the agencies requesting money will present a brief description of their project.
LiGHT members must be present at the meeting to cast a vote.
All LiGHT members have received a listing of the 2015 grant requests through the mail. A review of the full grant proposals are available for review at the Wells County Foundation office.

Personal Safety Class Oct. 29
Indiana State Police Sergeant, Dan Mawhorr, will present a personal safety class at the Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 6:45 p.m.
Sgt. Mawhorr has over 22 years of experience working with the Indiana State Police Department. The presentation will focus on knowing your surroundings and how to protect yourself during a jeopardizing situation.
Members and non-members of the Muselman Wellness Pavilion are welcome to attend this free personal safety class.

BSU Singers at Huntington Oct. 29
The La Fontaine Arts Council will present a concert by the Ball State University Singers on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Huntington North High School Auditorium.
Tickets are $10. Students and senior citizens age 62 and over are free.
Three recent Huntington North High School graduates, Elizabeth Leach, Levi Smith and Stuart Elmore, are members of this year’s group.
Dr. Alan Adler has been the director of the BSU Singers since 2008.

Indiana exhibits tour the state
Two Indiana Historical Society’s exhibits will be touring the state during the next two years.
From Pencils to Pixels: Hoosier Cartoons and Comics will be in our area from Oct. 2-27.
The Great War: From Ration Lines to the Front Lines will be at the Peabody Public Library in Columbia City from Nov. 3-Dec. 7 and at The History Center in Fort Wayne Jan. 30-Feb. 29, 2016.
The From Pencils to Pixels will celebrate the wide variety of illustrated art produced by Hoosiers for more than a century. From biting political satires and social commentary to beloved comic strips and cartoon characters created for children, artists from Indiana have been major players in the medium.
The Great War exhibit is just in time to commemorate that centennial of this pivotal chapter of American history. It will commemorate the contributions of Hoosiers, both on the battlefield and at home, while exploring the stories of soldiers and war workers, those who contributed to the war effort through manufacturing and local efforts to raise funds and support for the cause, and how the politics of the war affected Hoosier communities.

Open house at governor’s home
During the month of December the Governor’s residence in Indianapolis will offer tours to showcase the home’s holiday decorations. The blue and gold theme will kick off Indiana’s Bicentennial celebration. The tours are available by advance reservation only, and will last about an hour.
Times are 10 a.m., 11 a.m. or 2 p.m., but not all times on the dates of Dec. 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18.

Animalia Live Animal Program Oct. 17
The public is welcome to attend the Limberlost  State Historic Site Visitor Center  on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. to noon to watch a live animal presentation by Joel Vanderbush of Animalia, Inc.
 Joel will bring a variety of animals, including a barred owl, a boa constrictor, and even a skunk!

Spooktacular Exhibit at Blackford Oct. 19
Arts Place Blackford County Arts Center will be exhibiting art work by local artists Oct. 19 to Nov. 6. The exhibit will feature a variety of media appropriate for Halloween. 
A free family event will be held on Oct 30 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Costumes are encouraged, but not necessary. There will be a make and take-it activity for the kids.

The Montpelier Friends of the Library will sponsor a Bake Sale on Friday, Oct. 23, from 9-11 a.m., in the lobby of the Citizens Bank.

Murder mystery by Off Stage Productions 
Van Wert, Ohio’s Off Stage Productions will be presenting Murder Inn, a mystery; om Oct. 24, 25, 30, 31, Nov. 1, 6 & 7, at the Van Wert County Senior Center, 220 Fox Rd. Ceramics exhibit at U of St. Francis
A Surface Contemporary Ceramic Imagery exhibit will be featured at the University of Saint Francis from Oct. 24 to Nov. 24. Artists participating will include Steven Hanson, Jenni Bran, Bede Clarke, Justin Rothshank and Grace Sheese.

A Stitch in Time Quilt Show Oct. 24-25
A Stitch In Time Quilt Show, sponsored by The Quilters Guild of Indianapolis, will be held Oct. 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Westfield Middle School, located at 345 W. Hoover St., Westfield. Bluffton Farmer’s Market open
The Farmer’s Market is open at the Dutch Mill Plaza (Main Street at the bridge) on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Fright Night at FW’s Embassy Oct. 17
Fright Night at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 17, with three movies to be presented.
Scooby Doo meets Batman will begin at 3:30 p.m. with tickets priced at $3, (Doors will open at 2:30 p.m.)
At 6:30 p.m. Beetlejuice will be shown with ticket $8 for adults and $3 for those 12 and younger.
At 11 p.m. The Shining will be shown with tickets priced at $8 for adults and $3 for those 12 and younger.

FW Civic’s fundraiser Oct. 17
“Clue”less Theatrics is the murder detective fundraiser to be presented on Saturday, Oct. 17, as a fundraiser for the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre.
The murder detective fundraiser is based on the characters from the board game Clue. The action will begin at 6 p.m. on the Arts United Center stage. The evening also will include an appetizer buffet, dessert by DeBrand Chocolates and both live and silent auction items.
Tickets are $90 with a table of eight priced at $800. For reservations call 260-422-8641 ext. 226.

Pumpkin Dunkin Oct. 21
Registration for Pumpkin Dunkin is now open!!!  Swim in a pool of pumpkins before you decide which one to take home. Event is held at the Bluffton Middle School Pool Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. 
Pre-registration is required by calling 824-6069. Admission is $3 each and everyone who swims will get to take home a pumpkin and stay for family swim time until 8 p.m. Children must come with an adult.

Soule Kindred Reunion Oct. 21-24
Fort Wayne will be the location of the Soule Kindred Reunion Oct. 21-24.
The Soule Kindred in America “cousins” are descendants from George Soule, a Mayflower pilgrim, who arrived at Plymouth, Mass. in 1620.

Sock Hop Block Party Oct. 24
The Bluffton Parks Department will sponsor a Free 50’s Sock Hop Block Party on Saturday Oct 24 from 5-8 p.m. in front of City Hall for food, fun and musical entertainment.
Dress in 50’s outfit and dance the night way to music from “The Bulldogs” while the kids enjoy a bouncy house, games and a craft.
Yergy’s BBQ will be on hand selling pulled pork or BBQ rib dinners. Hotdog meals will also be available.
C & E Concessions will be selling root beer floats and other treats. 
Immediately following this event is the Go Greenway Glow 5K.  Donations and race fees will go towards River Greenway improvements. For more information call 824-6069.

Go Greenway Glow 5K Oct. 24
Go Greenway Glow Nighttime 5K Fun Run will be held Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The event will support Bluffton’s Rivergreenway.

Grab a glow stick and glow-in-the-dark clothes to run  (or walk) down Bluffton’s illuminated Rivergreenway. Race check-in and registration will begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall at 128 E. Market Street. Registration fee is $20 with checks payable to Bluffton Parks Department.

Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting Oct. 7
The Wells County Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group will meet at the First United Methodist Church, located at 325 W. Washington Street, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The meeting is intended for caregivers and family members of a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other dementia related diseases.  Those in attendance will also be given the opportunity to share their experiences of caring for their loved one and to ask questions of the other caregivers in attendance. Great Pumpkin Hunt Oct. 10
The Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the Great Pumpkin Hunt at 7:30 p.m. sharp on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Lancaster Park (across from Lancaster Elementary School).  Children can hunt for the 2,000 black and orange Halloween stuffed eggs at 7:30 p.m. sharp!!  Everyone needs to bring a flash light and a bag to hold their treats. Following the hunt enjoy a hayride and smore’s. This is a free event. Call 824-6069 for more information. 

Acrylic Painting class Oct. 10 at Blackford Arts Place
Arts Place, Blackford County Center will be provide an evening of acrylic painting, light refreshments, and wine Saturday, Oct. 10  from 6:30 p.m. -9 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. A teaching artist will guide participants as they paint with acrylics and complete a painting by the end of the night. The class is for beginners and intermediate painters. The center is located at 107 West Washington Street, Harford City, Indiana. Baby Day Oct. 12 at Berne
Swiss Village will host a special event to celebrate children on Monday, Oct. 12 in the auditorium. All babies are welcome to visit with residents between 2-4 p.m. 
A listing of all of the babies that have ever attended baby day will be available to look at. All babies will receive a special gift made by Swiss Village residents in appreciation of their participation. Call 260-589-3173.

Historical Society annual Fall Meeting Oct. 12
The Annual Fall Meeting of the Wells County Historical Society will be Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the museum in Bluffton. 
A brief business meeting will be followed by Ed Geotz of Ossian speaking about his time in service during World War II. He flew as a B-29 flight engineer in the Pacific Theater.
Other events at the museum will be: Boo in Bluffton on Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m; Christmas in the Mansion on Dec. 5-6 with the Psi Iota Xi hosting, December 12,13,19, 20, 26-27 the Historical Society will be hosting from 2-6 . 
Anyone wishing to set up a tree for the Christmas event can call Becky Behning at 260-438-5603. There is no charge for displaying a tree.

Remember to bring passports to events to be stamped. On Feb. 28, Sweetest Day, you will receive your goody bag if you have attended at least three events.

Classic films offered at Wabash theatre
The Eagles Theatre in Wabash will be presenting classic films at Throwback Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 6 through Dec. 22. Show times are 3 and 7 p.m. and admission is $2 per person.

Donkey Basketball Oct. 8 in Warren
A Donkey Basketball event will be held Thursday Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Knight Bergman Center Gym, 132 North Nancy Street, Warren.  
Members of the Warren Volunteer Fire Department, Warren Area Ministerial Association, Area School Teachers and Local, County and State Law Enforcement Officers will battle for a basket on the court,  while riding donkeys!
Pre-Sale tickets are $6 and are available at the Warren East of Chicago Pizza, the Warren iAB Bank and the Warren Pharmacy.  
Tickets at the Door will be $8. Children 6 and under are free! Food will be available, and will include pizza, chips, candy, drinks and popcorn.
Free donkey rides will be given at half-time for children ages 12 and younger. Raffle prize winners will be announced at half-time. (You do not need to be present to win). Raffle items may be viewed at Warren iAB Bank. Cost for the tickets are $1 each or buy six tickets for $5.

Second Saturday at Blackford Arts Center Oct. 10
Arts Place Blackford County Arts Center will host a free event Saturday, Oct. 10. 
Children in kindergarten through sixth grade can come  for a “Make-It and Take-It” activity anytime between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. 
Arts Place Blackford County Arts Center will be accepting free-will donations to cover the cost of supplies. 
The center is located at 107 West Washington Street, Hartford City, Indiana.
