FW’s wild zoo Halloween fun

Kids and families are invited to experience the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo’s new Wild Zoo Halloween event on Oct. 15-17, 21-24 and 28-31 from noon to 5 p.m. daily.
The Wild Zoo Halloween promises surprises, adventure, family fun and candy treats n a family-friendly fall atmosphere. Guests can choose their own path to interactive Treat Trails, join in the Monster Mash dance party, meet Broomhilda the friendly witch, explore the Mummy’s kitchen, visit the Beauty Shop of Horrors, touch creepy critters and more.
In addition to treats, every child will receive a complimentary kid-sized pumpkin of their very own. Kids are encouraged to wear costumes and join the daily Costume Parade! Train riders will be treated to the “Tale of the Twisted Tree” as they venture into the Franke Park woods.
Animal exhibits in the Central Zoo, the Indiana Family Farm and portions of the Australian Adventure will be open. Keepers will deliver pumpkin treats to selected animals on a rotating schedule. Theme days at the Wild Zoo Halloween include Star Wars characters on Oct. 16; favorite carton characters on Oct. 21, Icy, The Mad Ant, K’Zoo and their mascots on Oct. 24; and free balloon animals on Oct. 29. On Thursdays, train rides are free all day.
A Pumpkin Decorating Contest is open to the public and offers prizes in four age categories. Entries can be viewed at the Wild Zoo Halloween from Oct. 28-31.
Admission is $8 for children and $4 for adults. Zoo members receive $2 off per person every day. Additional fees are charged for the train ride, pony ride, carnival-style games, bracelet-making and face painting. Food is available for purchase.
