Nashville Bus Trip Oct. 3
The Insurance Women's Association of Fort Wayne will host a bus trip to Nashville/Brown County Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009.
The bus will depart from the office of Wells Fargo Insurance, 1721 Magnavox Way, at 7 a.m. and return at approximately 10 p.m. that evening. A continental breakfast and light evening snack is included in the $45 per person cost. Deadline for reservations is Sept. 1, 2009.
The group is a not-for-profit member association of the National Association of Insurance Women (International). For more information call 260-969-1918.

Gently Used Sale and Bake Sale
Sept. 18 & 19
St. Paul's Ladies Aid at St. Paul (Preble) Lutheran Church will sponsor a Gently Used Sale and Bake and Noodle Sale Friday, Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p .m. and Saturday, Sept. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon at the corner of 750N and 450W. Cookbooks will be available. There will be a $2 bag sale on Saturday.

Beneath the Layers Exhibit at Arts Place Sept.18
Beneath the Layers, works by Terre Haute artist Crystal Vicars, will be on display in the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery at Arts Place’s Portland Center from Sept. 18 through Nov. 8, 2009. The facility is located at 131 East Walnut Street in Portland, Indiana. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. A reception to welcome the artist will take place on Friday, Sept. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. Vicars holds a Master of Fine Arts in Painting with Highest Distinction from Indiana State University. “To me, painting is a spiritual event. The space between painter and canvas is natural, supernatural, and spiritual. I delight in the evolution of process, and my current body of work addresses ones inner self, connecting with outside world… My paintings explore life’s mystery.”

Fall bazaar and bake sale Sept. 19
The Insurance Women's Assocation of Fort Wayne will host a Fall Bazaar and Bake Sale Saturday, Sept. 19 at the American Legion Post 47 at 6424 Saint Joe Road in Fort Wayne from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will feature many arts and crafts vendors and more. Farmer's Market this week
A Farmer's Market will be held Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon at the corner of Main and Washington Streets in downtown Bluffton.
Available this week are: green beans, red beets, carrots, peppers (red and yellow), tomatoes (red and yellow), heirlooms, eggplants, squash (all kinds), cucumbers, onions, garlic, peaches, plums, necturines, Honey Crisp apples, several other kinds of apples, homemade cookies, pies, cakes, cinnamon bread, whole wheat bread, other assorted breads, eggs, jams, jellies, wood crafts, doll clothes, dog beds, handcrafted all occasion cards, invitations, gourds, decorated gourds, perennials, cider.

Women of the Word Conference Sept. 19
The third annual Women of the Word Conference will be held Saturday, Sept. 19 at the Wells Community 4-H Building in Bluffton. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with lunch provided. Cost is $8 per person. There will also be door prizes given away.

City Wide Clean Up Oct. 3
Bluffton's City Wide Clean Up will be held Oct. 3 from 8 a.m. to noon at 702 North Main Street.
Bluffton residents may use the dumpsters. Recyclables, hazardous waste materials, furniture, tires, televisions, carpet, construction materials and brush cannot be accepted at this site. Look for more details on the City’s Website. www.blufftonindiana.net. For more information call 824-1520.

Breast Cancer Walk Oct. 3
Thousands of women and men across Northeast Indiana will unite in their fight against breast cancer during the American Cancer Society’s 2009 annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at 9 a.m. at Headwaters Park East.
Making Strides is a noncompetitive walk supporting the American Cancer Society’s unique mission to help people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; help people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.
Registration for the 5K noncompetitive walk begins at 8 a.m. The walk begins at 9 a.m. at Headwaters Park East. Donations will be collected at the walk or can be made online by visiting www.cancer.org/stridesonline. Hunter's Education Course Oct. 5-7
