Parks department events

With Street Fair and the cooler weather approaching, Bluffton Parks Department reminds you that the Splash Pad will be shut down for the winter as of Monday, September 21st. So get out and enjoy the last few days of it. As we approach these final days, we’d like to close down our summer with a “splash of fun” for our furry friends. We invite you to take your “leashed” canine buddy and enjoy our first annual “Doggie Douse”! For the last 2 hours of the Splash Pad season, (Sunday, September 20th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.) we’ll waive the no pooches on the pad rule and let it “go to the dogs”! Please remember to keep your pet on a leash, under control and clean any up “accidents” immediately.

On Sunday, September 13th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Kehoe Park, we will celebrate National Neighborhood Day. Join us there for FREE food and entertainment. We will feature local talent and Jim Barron Comedian, Magician and Illusionist. Mr. Barron will perform from 4:15 – 5:15 p.m. We will also be featuring a large “electronic outdoor game system”. This interactive attraction is called “NEOS”. You will be working a lot more than just your thumbs playing this game! You will also get a fun workout! The kids (all ages) will want one of these for their backyard! The Bluffton Police and Fire Departments will be grilling and serving hot dogs. We will also have homemade cookies from the Southern Wells Home Ec class as well as chips and drinks. New this year will be a “CHILI COOK-OFF CONTEST”. Call and register with our office by September 10th to enter your favorite recipe. We’ll judge on site and share with all who attend the event. Cash prizes will be awarded based on the number of entries. There is no cost to enter. Call our office at 824-6069 for more details.

If you enjoy the game of volleyball and would like to play in our Coed League, we are now taking registration. You must be at least 18 years of age to participate. Put together your own team and call us. There is a limit of 8 teams, so call soon. The games will be held on Monday evenings beginning November 5th for 12 weeks.

We still have seats available for our Frankenmuth Michigan trip set for October 21st. Cost is $45.00 per person which includes lunch. Also, we are still accepting participants for our Fall Senior Exploration program. This is an award-winning adult program that you really don’t want to miss out on!
