What's Up (Independence Day is so close)

Science Central to take a school supply for discount
admission
During the entire month of July, bring a school supply to donate to a local student and receive $2 off your admission to Science Central. Admission is $7 per person for those ages three to adult. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. For more information call 260-424-2400 or log onto: www.sciencentral.org.

Good, used items now accepted at the library
The Wells County Public Library is now accepting good, used books, videos, cds, albums, etc., for the Friends of the Library Summer Used Books Sale, July 15-18. Items must be in good condition: no torn pages, mildew or stains. Unfortunately, we cannot take encyclopedia sets. Bring your good, used items to the library or call 260-824-1612.

Upwards Soccer
registration
July 6, 7 & 9
Children between the ages of four and eighth grade are eligible to play Upward Soccer. Games begin August 15.
Evaluations begin next week. If you are not yet registered, bring kids to evaluations Monday, July 6, Tuesday, July 7 or Thursday, July 9 between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. and get them registered and evaluated all at once!
Evaluations and registrations will be taken at Hope Missionary Church, 429 E. Dustman at Fellowship Park on east Dustman Road in Bluffton. Registration forms can also be picked up at Pizza Hut and the Public Library in Bluffton.

Fireworks July 4 at Hartford City
There will be a free fireworks show at dark (10 p.m.) at Wildwood Acres Campground at 0520W--300N., Hartford City Saturday, July 4. There will be musical entertainment from 1 to 10 p.m. at the park featuring bluegrass, country and gospel music.
There will also be a Fourth of July parade at 3:45 p.m. at the volley ball court. Available will be games, a barbeque wagon, funnel cakes, ice cream, flea market, rummage, bingo and more. For more information call 765-348-2100.

3-D Archery Shoot July 5
South West Conservation, located at 5703 Bluffton Road, will sponsor a 3-D Archery Shoot that is open to the public on Sunday, July 5 and July 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 260-747-4677.

Edelweiss Singers in concert July 9
The Edelweiss Singers, directed by Don Gerig and Kathleen Henkel accompanist, will perform at the South Adams Senior Center on Thursday evening, July 9, at 7 p.m. They have performed around the area for many years and sing a variety of music. There is no admission charge for this concert, but donations are accepted for the senior center expenses.
The South Adams Senior Center is located at 825 Hendricks St., Berne, IN. Everyone of any age, or residential location is invited to come and enjoy an evening of wonderful music.

Free poetry contest offered
A $1,000 grand prize is being offered in a special poetry contest sponsored by The Celestial Arts Society.
The contest if free and open to poets of all ages. Available will be 50 prizes totaling $5,000.
Poems of 21 lines or less on any subject and in any style will be accepted.
Entries must be received by July 31, 2009 and may be submitted by mail to: Free Poetry Contest, 704 1st St., Golden, CO 80403 or entered online at: www.freecontest.com. Your name and address must appear on the page with the poem. To receive a winner's list, enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope with your entry.

Wellness Fair July 9 in Berne
Swiss Village will host a Wellness Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 9 at the Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion.
The Wellness Fair is open to the community and will showcase goods and services that promote living a healthier life. Various businesses from Berne and the surrounding areas will be at the fair. For more information contact Michelle Lechlitner, Swiss Village Marketing Director at 260-589-3173.

Veterans Benefits Seminar July 9
Claude McMillen from the Wells County Veterans Service Office and Keith Huffman, an attorney from Dale & Huffman, will present a Veterans Benefits Seminar Thursday, July 9 at 7 p.m. at River Terrace Estates in Assisted Living dining room.
They will discuss different programs available to help veterans and their spouses pay for assisted living services. They will include requirements necessary to qualify for the program as well as the benefits of the program itself. Information will also be available on the application process for the VA program.
