Auditions set for ‘White Christmas’ on Oct. 18-19
Auditions for “White Christmas” will be on Friday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bluffton First Presbyterian Church. An all-cast read-thru will be on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. at the Bluffton Presbyterian Church.
Everyone should be prepared to sing a short song (one minute or less). There is one part for a young girl (upper elementary or middle school age). All other characters and ensemble members are adults (high school and up). Anyone auditioning for the parts of Phil or Judy should also prepare a short tap dance in addition to their short vocal solo.
CAC’s Balentine Gallery featuring ‘Friday’ artists
Works of art by the artists who meet each Friday morning at the Arts Commerce and Visitors Centre, from roughly 9 a.m. until noon, will featured in the Balentine Gallery, beginning on Monday, Oct. 20. Paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor will be hung with many of the items for sale. Hours for the gallery are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The works will be viewable through Nov. 28.
Retail Food Certification offered Class Oct. 29 & Nov. 5
Purdue Cooperative Extension Service of Wells County will be offer a Retail Food Certification class on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 at the Wells County Community Center at 1240 4-H Park Road in Bluffton. The 16-hour class will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The exam will be administered at 3 p.m. on Nov. 5.
The class is for food handlers who need to obtain a Retail Food Certificate.
A photo ID with signature is required to take the exam. The cost of the class with exam is $155. The cost to take the exam only is $50. Pre-registration is required by Oct. 22 in order to receive a textbook and avoid a $20 late fee. Walk-ins will not receive a textbook. English and Spanish exams are available per registration.

Block Party Hoe Down Oct. 25
The Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department will host the second Block Party of the year in front of city hall on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. It will be a Hoe Down, so dress in your best country wear! There will be music (Stoney Creek Band), dancing (Scatter 8’s square dancers), games, corn hole and food!
There is no fee to attend, but there will be food and refreshments for purchase.
Available will be root beer floats and apple dumplings from C&E Concessions, sugar corn by Ossian Conservation Club and Texas Tenderloin will be on hand selling tenderloins, corn dogs, french fries and onion petals.
The 4-H Hurrin’ Harrisons Club, Wells County Boys Scouts and Bluffton High School National Honor Society students will help during the event.
There will be a photo area for you and your family and friends to take your own pictures. Profits from this event will go towards the Revitalize Our Rivergreenway project. For more information call 2824-6069.
Bonnie Stephan memorial concert Oct. 26
Friends and former students of Bonnie Stephan want to honor her with a free concert at 2 p.m. on Oct 26 at Trinity United Methodist Church at 530 Guilford Street in Huntington.
Bonnie Stephan passed away April 28, 2014. She had a successful career as a pianist, organist, soprano soloist, and could even whistle in harmony.
In her early years she won the American Guild of Organists regional competition for Indiana allowing her to be one of twelve contestants from the US to compete in the national competition in NYC.
She had a Bachelor of Music from Indiana University in organ performance. At the time of her death, she was serving as organist at Unity Church in Fort Wayne.
Students are coming from various communities back to Huntington to honor their professor and teacher.
