Racquetball Tournament Jan. 7
Racquetball is an excellent sport that can be played by all ages and fitness levels for exercise, competition and fun. It also works nearly every muscle group, including sustained, repetitive use of large muscles that increase calorie burn and reduce fat. What better way to get a workout and have fun all at the same time with a tournament. Call the gym at 824-5910 beginning Jan. 7 to register for this annual event and get to know others in your area who enjoy playing. Tournament is open to ages 16 and older, cost is $5 to non-city gym members and free for members. Categories will be divided after registration is taken.
Learn to Sew Jan. 12 (first of 3 lessons) 1-3 p.m.
Learning to sew is a great skill that can save you money on clothing repairs and give you enjoyment creating personal gifts for family and friends. Kathy Gehrett will instruct a “hands on” beginner’s sewing class to teach the fundamentals of hand and machine sewing. Classes will be held on Tuesdays Jan 12, 19, and 26 from 1-3 p.m. on the second floor of the City Hall. Cost for six hours of small group lessons are $20, which is due the first day. Call the park office to pre-register at 824-6069. Class size is limited and the first project will be a simple tote bag. Bring your own sewing machine or ask about a loaner.
Crochet Jan 12 (First of Three Lessons) 3-4 p.m.
Learning to crochet will give you a lifetime of pleasure and relaxation. You can learn to create handmade items for yourself and people you love. Classes will be taught by Kathy Gehrett on Tuesdays Jan 12, 19 & 26th from 3-4 p.m. on the second floor of the City Hall building. Cost for 3 hours of group lessons are $10 due the first day. Yarn and instructions will be provided and you will need to bring your own size H hook. Call the park office to pre-register. Class size is limited and open to beginners and advanced students.
Sunday Jan 24- Science Central Star Lab 6:30-8 p.m.
The night sky has followed you your whole life. It may be the only thing your distant ancestors would recognize today. How much of it do you recognize? Take a journey through our Milky Way with your budding astronomer in the portable star lab that will visit the city gym Sunday Jan. 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. Families need to call 824-6069 in advance to schedule a time with the educator.
Stuff and Fluff Feb. 8
Bluffton Park’s Department Stuff and Fluff registration - Ladies bring that special girl in your life for a memorable evening she will never forget. Watch her eyes light up as the two of you make her very own stuffed animal. This event will be held Feb. 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall. Be sure to wear play clothes since we will also be doing Valentine crafts. Cost to participate is $20 per girl. Call 824-6069 to register and pick out your animal.
Daddy-Daughter Disco, Feb. 21
Bluffton Park’s Department Daddy Daughter Disco - Gentlemen dig out your polyester leisure suit and hurry on down to the City Clerk Treasurer’s office to purchase your tickets. The actual dance will take place on Feb. 21, from 6–8 p.m. Cost is $10 per couple and $3 for each additional daughter. Escorts may be fathers, grandpas, or other significant adult role models.
