Ouabache State Park Events

Ouabache's interpretive programs are family oriented. Parents and children are encouraged to attend activities together. An adult should accompany children under the age of 10. In the case of inclement weather, all hikes will meet at the Campview Shelter. Schedule subject to change.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 14
1:45 p.m. — Pool break quickie craft. Meet on the pool lawn to create a craft for you to take home. Swimmers, make sure you have your hand stamped as you exit the bath house so you can easily re-enter the pool.
3:45 p.m. — Insect ID. Know the difference between a bug and an insect? What makes a beetle a beetle? Learn what to look for when identifying an insect on the pool lawn. Swimmers, make sure you have your hand stamped as you exit the bath house so you can easily re-enter the pool.
7:30 p.m. — Ducks in trees. That’s right folks! This duck makes his home in a tree. Discover this natural wonder tonight at Trails End Shelter.
THURSDAY, JULY 15
5 p.m. — Evening bison hike. Learn more about Ouabache’s resident bison herd during a short hike on flat terrain. Hike will meet at the small shelter in front of the Wildlife Exhibit. Tennis shoes, bug spray and sunscreen are recommended.

FRIDAY, JULY 16
1:45 p.m. — Intro to stars. Twinkle, twinkle little star. Learn about the different stars that make up our galaxy during the safety check on the pool lawn. Swimmers, make sure you have your hand stamped as you exit the bath house so you can easily re-enter the pool.
3:45 p.m. — Meet the sandhill crane. Meet on the pool lawn to learn more about this interesting stopover species. Swimmers, make sure you have your hand stamped as you exit the bath house so you can easily re-enter the pool.
7:30 p.m. — Gardening for wildlife. You can create an oasis in your own backyard that will attract birds, insects, and more. Learn how tonight at Campview Shelter.

SATURDAY, JULY 17
9:30 a.m. — Dolls of the frontier. Join Naturalist Kate at Campview Shelter to learn more about one toy you would have found on the frontier - doll. Afterwards, we’ll create our own dolls.
11 a.m. — Hoosier Quest. Discover! Connect! Explore! Learn more about these great project based programs that you can complete at any of the State Parks and Reservoirs during this 30 minute program. Find out how you can earn certificates, patches, bandanas and more. Get started by meeting at Campview Shelter located in the middle of Campground A!
1:45 p.m. — Spiders that jump. These little guys are amazing jumpers. Learn about the jumping spider today during the safety check on the pool lawn. Swimmers, make sure you have your hand stamped as you exit the bath house so you can easily re-enter the pool.
8 p.m. — Salamanders, sirens, and newts. Naturalist Kate will share a little bit about some creatures you might be able to find in your own backyard. You’ll have to check these amazing amphibians at Campview Shelter.

SUNDAY, JULY 18
11 a.m. — Hoosier Quest. See Saturday for details.
1:45 p.m. — Pool break. Join Naturalist Kate for a quick game on the pool lawn. There will be prizes! Swimmers, make sure you have your hand stamped as you exit the bath house so you can easily re-enter the pool.
