Hope Missionary Breakfast May 2
The Hope Missionary Church Disaster Relief Team will sponsor the annual Pancake, Sausage and Egg Breakfast Saturday, May 2 from 6 to 10 a.m. at the Family Life Center at 429 E. Dustman Road in Bluffton.Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12. Kids age five and younger are free. All proceeds will go toward providing relief efforts to individuals and communities dealing with catastrophic events.

Prom Dress Exchange Short Formal Give Away May 8
Students at Bluffton High School May shop free of charge in the commons on Friday, May 8 from 3 to 4:30 for a dress furnished by Prom Dress Exchange.
Fifty short formal/sundresses in sizes 2-16 will be made available for interested students to try on.

Pickle Ball May 9
Pickle Ball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. 
This fun sport combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong and is played on a badminton-sized court with a paddle and a plastic ball.  
Any adult who would like to learn this sport should meet on Saturday May 9 at 10 a.m. at the Lion’s Park at 228 Midway tennis courts. 
All supplies and instructions will be provided. Questions call 824-6069. 
Basket Making Class May 18
The Parks Department is accepting registration for a Basket Making Class to be held on Monday, May 18 at 6 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall. 
Cost is $12 per person and due that day. Those attending will need to bring a square (4”) tissue box.

PIXAR in concert by The Phil May 2
PIXAR in Concert will  be the next Sweetwater Pops Concert by the Fort Wayne Philharmonic on Saturday, May 2, with 2 and 7:30 p.m. offerings at the Embassy Theatre.
Characters from Toy Story to The Incredibles and UP will be presented in clips with memorable scores from each of the movies.

Free Senior Breakfast in Berne May 1
In recognition of May as National Older Americans Month, Swiss Village and the Berne Rotary Club will co-sponsor the 25th annual Senior Breakfast on Friday, May 1 from 7 to 9 a.m. at 1350 West Main Street in Berne. 

In recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Senior Breakfast a special menu will be served which will include egg casserole, bacon, biscuit, and fresh fruit. All seniors are welcome.  The first 200 guests will receive a free Swiss Village tote bag. Story in Chicken Soup  book
Rhonda K. Maller of Bluffton has a story included in the current Chicken Soup for the Soul book titled “Time to Thrive.”
Her story, “Taught by Teens” is one of 101 inspiring stories about growth, wisdom and dreams included in the soft cover book.
Maller is a writer who writes blogs and social media and marketing copy for companies throughout the U.S. and also is a freelance inspirational writer/speaker. She enjoys reading, writing, crafting, traveling and spending time wither her family, including 13 grandchildren and friends.

FW Philharmonic Online auction April 29
“You are Instrumental” is the title of the online auction that will be conducted by the Fort Wayne Philharmonic from April 29 to May 9.
Starting at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, bidders may go to www.32auctions.com/thephil to bid on “amazing packages and spectacular gifts.” Accounts may be set up in advance and bidding will continue for a week.
A wide variety of items are available from entertainment packages to food adventures.  All proceeds from this event will go directly to support the Fort Wayne Philharmonic’s programs and performances.

Free Comic Book Day at Huntington and Markle May 2
The Huntington City-Twp. Public Library and Markle Branch will be participating in Free Comic Book Day Saturday, May 2. 
Taking place annually on the first Saturday in May, Free Comic Book Day is a single day when participating comic book specialty shops and public libraries across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who walks through the door. 
Starting at 9 a.m., any patron who enters either library location on Saturday, May 2 can receive two free comic books while supplies last. 
The Huntington Main Library will also be screening the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past (rated PG-13) with free popcorn, to begin around noon.
A wide variety of comics will be given for free this year, including but not limited to Doctor Who, Avengers, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Supermutant Magic Academy, Jojo Bizarre Adventure and Yu-gi-oh, and Lady Justice. 
The Huntington Library is located at 255 West Park Drive, Huntington, and the Markle Branch at 197 East Morse Street, Markle.

Parks Department Pee Wee Swim Registration May 9
Pee Wee Swim Registration will be held at City Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9. Cost is $6 per child. 

Lessons will be Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the week of June 22. Swim time is from 11-11:45 a.m. and a parent must get in the water with each child. No unattended children on pool deck during lessons. Limited enrollment. For more information call 824-6069.

Zoo Opens April 25
 The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo opens for the 2015 season on Saturday, April 25 and will be kicking off a summer-long 50th birthday celebration filled with new exhibits, special events, and an adorable baby Sumatran orangutan.

Parks K-12 Swim Registration May 9
The Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department will offer swim lessons this summer. Swim registration is for children who just finished grades K-12 and will take place at the City Hall from 10:30 am to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9.  Class lessons will be held Monday through Friday June 8-19 OR July 6-17 for a total of 10 lessons. Class times are either 10-10:50 a.m. or 11-11:50 a.m.  Cost for non Wells County Residents is $12 and discounted to $6 for residents (due at registration). For more information call 824-6069.

Fill the Tent Food Drive April 25
Adams County Boy Scouts will sponsor a Fill the Tent Food Drive Saturday, April 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the WalMart in Decatur.
All donations will stay in Adams County.

Drive In out of hibernation in Wabash
The Honeywell Foundation and INGUARD have announced that the 13-14 Drive In will open for the season and offer free admission to kids 12 and younger all summer long.
The Drive In gates will open sometime during the month of May, just as they did in 1951, inviting all to “come as you are.”
Thursday, Aug. 23, 1951 was the original opening day with admission 50 cents for adults and free to those 12 and under. The first movie shown was “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves” in Technicolor.
A contest to name the Drive In was held and 13-24  Drive In was chosen from 235 entries. Mrs. Don Alger was the winner as the name incorporated the two highways the theater was located beside.

CAC seeking summer intern
Wells County’s Creative Arts Council is seeking a part-time summer intern to assist in the office from mid-May to the end of July.
CAC Joel Harmeyer explains it would be a perfect opportunity for a college student home for the summer. Resumes are being accepted at the CAC office in the Arts Commerce & Visitors Centre.

Master Gardener Volunteer Program 
Fall Master Gardener Training will begin on Sept. 9 and end Nov. 14. These classes are held on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m.  to 12:30 p.m.
The $125 program fee includes class materials and a reference notebook.

Raising Chickens Class May 9
Raising Chickens for Food and Fun, a free class, open to the public, will be held Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m. at the Allen County Extension Office (on the IPFW Campus).
Julie Scheele has been an RN for 30 years, and is currently homeschooling two teenagers. She has raised chickens for the last 8 years; her family involved in 4-H for five of those eight years. 
She will share general information about chickens and raising them for meat, eggs, or both.  Reasons to raise chickens, getting started, and special considerations including neighbors, restrictions on raising birds in cities (including Fort Wayne), and more.

Dancing with the Stars at the Embassy July 31
Dancing with the Stars: Live” will be bringing the Perfect 10 Tour to the Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre on Friday, July 31 at 8 p.m.

Parks Department accepting donations
The Parks Department offers a variety of free fun activities for families in the community. In order to continue to provide these programs the department will accept donations of craft supplies, yarn, golf clubs and balls, tennis rackets, drum sticks, broken/unwanted electronics, comic books, fabric, ribbon, basket making supplies, glue, old calendars, clean canning jars, squirt guns, and party decorations.

Card Class April 30
A Homemade Thinking of you and Sympathy Card class, taught by Angie Honegger, will be held Thursday, April 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at City Hall. ost is $7 for (4) cards or (8) for $12. Cards will be simple and elegant with easy techniques thrown in the mix!

Arts Place Spring Ensemble  Concert May 1
Students from the Arts Place MusicWorks program will perform their annual spring ensemble concert on Friday, May 1 at 7 p.m. Individual recitals will be held on Saturday, May 2.  Both events will be held at Arts Place in Portland Center at 131 East Walnut Street.

Bike Bluffton Registration open
Bike Bluffton Registration is open for the bike ride to be held on Sunday, May 17 from 2-5 p.m. 
Event options include a 25 mile bike loop around the Bluffton area OR a 6 mile family bike ride on the River Greenway. 
Both rides begin and end at Pickett’s Run Park on River Road and include water and refreshment stations on the course. Helmets are required. 
Cost is $5 for the 25 mile ride and $1 for the family ride. 
T-shirts are available for $10.

 Girls Night Out to Honeywell Center July 25 
“The Girl’s Night Out, Boys Can Come Too Tour” will be at the Honeywell Center in Wabash on Saturday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m.
It will feature Colbie Caillat, two-time Grammy winning artist, and Christina Perri, named iTunes’ “Breakthrough Pop Artist of 2011.”

Symphony to play at Honeywell April 26
The Manchester Symphony Orchestra will present the final concert of the 76th season at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, at the Honeywell Center in Wabash.
It will be recorded and broadcast on PBS39 in Fort Wayne.
The concert entitled “The Nature of Classics” will feature an all nature themed program. Included will be Symphony No. 6 in F Major, op. 68 by Beethoven—known as the Pastoral Symphony.
The 70 member orchestra will be conducted by Scott Humphries and is composed of professional and community musicians, along with selected faculty, staff and student musicians of Manchester University.

Spelling bee musical next for FW Civic Theatre May 1-10
“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be the next production for the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre May 1-10 at the Arts United Center.
John Tolley will direct the musical that is billed as not a show for young children. Members of the cast include Robert Shoquist, Megan Meyer, Nick Chaney, Eric Smead, Emily Arata and Emilie Henry as the spellers and Tracey Graham, Reuben Albuagh and Albert Brownlee as the adults. Guided tour of Rainbow Bottom May 2
On Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to noon, a guided tour of the Rainbow Bottom area near Geneva will be offered.
Those wanting to take the tour should meet at the Limberlost Cabin in Geneva and follow the naturalist to the site. The area was the setting for two of author Gene Stratton -Porter’s books.

Friends of the Shelter meeting April 13
Members of Friends of the Shelter will meet Monday, April 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall at 128 E. Market Street in Bluffton.
The organization  provides support for the Bluffton/Wells County Animal Shelter.
Items on the agenda will include: Shelter operations,  updates on Spay-Neuter clinics and  results of last weeks Dog Bone Hunt.

Annual meeting to feature Conner Prairie historical interpreter April 13
On Monday, April 13, the Wells County Historical Society will hold their annual dinner meeting with special guest Sam Shafer presenting the program.
Shafer, a Norwell High School graduate, is an historical interpreter at the Conner Prairie Interactive History Museum. He will speak on the American Civil War and its impact on Indiana and Wells County.
Reservations are still being accepted for the 6:30 p.m. dinner to be held at the Wells County Public Library at $15 per person. To attend the program only there is a $5 charge.  To make a reservation call 273-1742.

Bluffton Rotary Club Annual Rose Sale underway
The Bluffton Rotary Club annual Rose Sale is currently underway. Cost is $20 per dozen.

National Volunteer Week at Ouabache State Park April 18
Ouabache State Park will host a Trail Maintenance Day on Saturday, April 18 at 12:30 p.m. to celebrate volunteer week and to get the park ready for recreation season.

YWCA Seeking Nominations for 2015 Peggy Hobbs Award
Every year, YWCA Northeast Indiana seeks to honor a community volunteer who embodies the passion, commitment, and dedication of Peggy Hobbs. 
Hobbs is a long-time advocate of YWCA Northeast Indiana, serving as president of the board of directors for three terms and as a volunteer for many years supporting our mission of empowering women and eliminating racism.

The Wells County 4-H Association will sponsor a Pancake and Sausage Breakfast Saturday, April 18 from 7 to 10 a.m at the 4-H Park. 
A free will donation will be taken during the event. Proceeds will go to new outdoor restrooms and log cabin restoration.

The Bluffton Parks Department and the Caylor Nickel Foundation Family YMCA are partnering to bring Bluffton’s first Senior Games. ANYONE over age 40 can participate!
Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three men and women in each event, for each 10 year age brackets - “Kids Division” for 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+. 
Registration deadline is Friday, April 21st. Events will run from May 2 -8. Participate in one event or all nine! Events include bowling, table tennis, raquetball, corn hole, archery, swimming, basketball hoop shoot, 5K run, 1 mile treadmill walk/run. Spaghetti Supper at Warren April 11
Warren United Church of Christ will sponsor the annual Spaghetti Supper on Saturday, April 11 from 4:30-7 p.m. at 202 East Second Street in the Fellowship Hall.

Liberty Center Fire Station Open House April 11
The public is welcome to attend the open house for the new Liberty Center Fire Station Saturday, April 11 from noon to 5 p.m. There will be food and beverages available throughout the day. A dedication ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. There will be a bounce house for the kids and a fire education trailer from the IVFA and SPOT the Fire dog.

Mercer County sale April 30-May 5
A six-day garage sale, sponsored by Mercer County Council on Aging, will be held April 30-May 5 at the Senior Citizens Center in Celina, Ohio.

Easter Egg Hunt at Limberlost cabin April 4
A Golden Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the Limberlost Cabin in Geneva on Saturday, April 4, beginning at 11 a.m.
Children age 12 and younger are invited to bring their own basket to hunt for eggs. The person finding the golden egg will win a special prize.
After the hunt there will  be a “bunny class” conducted by the official Limberlost Harebrain. There is a $2 charge per child to participate.

Liberty Center Easter Egg Hunt April 4
The annual Liberty Center Easter Egg Hunt will be held at noon Saturday, April 4 at the Liberty Center Park. The raindate will be April 11.
There will four age groups: 1-4 years old; 5-8 years old; 9-12 years old and Handicapped 1-12 years old.
Those attending should bring a basket to collect the eggs. (3/24)

Easter Egg Hunt, Dog Bone Hunt and Marshmallow Contest April 4
The Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt, a Dog Bone Hunt and a Marshmallow Peep Eating Contest, all on the lawn at Roush Park Saturday April 4. There will be 4,000 colorful eggs and fresh rabbit tracks. 
Children’s egg hunt will begin at 12:30 p.m. sharp. Children will be divided into age groups and each group will have a “golden egg”. Baby animals will be on hand for children to pet. 
The Dog Egg Hunt will start promptly at 12:45 p.m. Pets must be on a leash at all times. 
Following the hunts a few lucky adults will be selected to participate in a marshmallow peep eating contest. 

Community Plant Swap May 2
Herbs’ Friends Herb Club will host the 18th annual Community Plant Swap Saturday, May 2 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Riverside Center in Decatur at 321 E. Monroe Street.
Savory, the herb of the year, will be on sale. There will also be recipes using the herb, savory, and food samples. The annual indoor event is open to the public as a way to sell or swap excell plants or to buy new plants or cuttings.  Doors will open at 6 a.m. for participants to set up their display of plants. Covered tables will be provided at $10 each.
Bring potted plants that are clearly labled and priced form $1 to $10. Nothing can be priced more than $10. Public sales start at 7 a.m.

Warren High School Alumni Banquet May 9
The Alumni Banquet of Warren High School will be held at the Knight-Gergman Center in Warren on Saturday, May 9. All former students, teachers and friends of the Warren School are welcome and encouraged to attend the event. The classes of 1955 and 1965 will be recognized as honored classes. All graduates 1945 and before will also be recognized. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner. The program will start at 6:30 p.m. The Salamonie Valley Museum will be open during the afternoon and evening. Creative Arts Council to host summer theater camp in August

The Creative Arts Council of Wells County will host a theater camp for young people this August. The camp, led by Christopher Murphy, will run from Aug. 3-7, serving children ages 8 to 18. This week-long day camp costs $125 ($100 for current Creative Arts Council members). The activities will be held in the lower level of the Arts Commerce & Visitors Centre, 211 Water St. in Bluffton. Prep and Labeling of processed food info meeting April 11
Purdue Extension of Blackford County will offer an informational meeting Saturday, April 11 at 6 p.m. at the Pickle Restaurant at 1776 Independence Parkway in Hartford City.
The purpose of the meeting is to avert any misunderstandings of the Indiana State Department of Health regulations regarding Home Based Vendors.
In attendance will be Linda Briles of the Blackford County Health Department. She will be able to answer questions regarding preparation and labeling of saleable items.
Also in attendance will be Jim Ferguson of Growers and Makers Market of Hartford City.

Wildflower Walk at Gene Stratton-Porter site
On Saturday, April 25, the Gene Stratton-Porter’ Wildflower Woods site on Sylvan Lake near Rome City will offer a Wildflower Walk and Brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Cost is $20 per person with reservations needed by April 17.
Brunch will be served in the Carriage House and a 30 to 45 minute interpretive walking tour will follow. 
Both the woods and “tame” garden will be visited. The event will be held rain or shine.

Car, Truck & Bike Show April 25
An open Car, Truck and Bike Show will be held Saturday, April 25 at Living Faith Missionary Church at 17718 Bluffton Road in Yoder. The event is sponsored by the church youth group.
All types of motorcycles, cars and trucks can enter. Door prizes and trophies will be awarded. A registration fee of $10 will be charged for each entry. Concessions will be available on site.
This is the main fundraiser for the church youth. Proceeds will provide opportunities for the youth to attend youth camps and events.
