Creative Arts Center sponsoring free demo of ice sculpturing Jan. 20

TONIGHT from 5 to 6:30 p.m. folks stopping by the Bluffton Arts Commerce & Visitors Centre’s terrace will be able to watch ice artist Bud Lies as he transforms a 300 pound block of ice into a wonderful sculpture.
Lies recently created a grand piano out of a 3,000 pound block of ice, complete with all the ivories in place, for the Shipshewana Ice Festival. Another major sculpture by Lies was a C 130 Aircraft with a 30-foot wingspan using 55,000 pounds of ice in Fairbanks, Alaska’s annual ice carving competition.
There is no charge to stop by to watch the process and visitors will have access to the centre to warm up and to view the current exhibit of Mud and Metal.
Lies and his wife, the former Linda Rittenhouse, are now residents of LaPorte. Lies plans to participate in the annual “Fire & Ice” Festival in Columbia City later this month.
