Individuals age 50 or older are invited to a seniors lunch, June 1, at the Salamonie Interpretive Center.
Kathy Holst of the Huntington City-Township Public Library will present a program titled “Save Your Brain.” The program features puzzles and exercises that can be used to keep your mind alert, while honing thinking skills.
The program begins at 12:30 p.m. A meat dish will be provided by Upper Wabash Interpretive Services (UWIS). Seniors should bring a dish to pass, their own table service, and $1 donation to help defray the cost of the provided meat dish.
Register by calling (260) 468-2127, or in person at the interpretive center.
Park entrance fees of $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents and $7 per vehicle for non-residents will apply.

The contest is part of the library’s Summer Reading Program activities. “Be creative @ your library - Video Contest” is open to adults and teens ages 12 and up.
The rules are simple. Film a one to three minute video that shows the library as an exciting place for all ages. Be creative. “We are so excited about this contest,” Deb Perry, community relations manager at the library, said. “It’s a fun way for people to show off their creativity, which is exactly what the theme of the Summer Reading Program is all about.”
The contest is open to Wells County residents with a valid library card. They can work alone or as a team. Only one $100 Best Buy gift card will be presented to the winning entry. Two runner-up videos will each receive a local restaurant gift certificate.
Entry deadline: July 1, 2009

Southern Wells Community Garage Sales May 30
Southern Wells Community, including the Towns of Poneto, Petroleum, Liberty Center and Keystone, will join together for garage sales Saturday, May 30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Poneto Community Club.
In addition to the garage sale, events will include a sausage, gravy and biscuit breakfast at the Poneto Firestation from 7 to 10 a.m.; a soup and sandwich lunch at the Petroleum Methodist Church and baked goods available at Keystone Church. New KOA opening VERY soon
The new Bluffton / Fort Wayne South KOA 1625 West Lancaster Street is mostly open. The pool is open; Kamp store and laundry facilities; showers and restrooms; cabins, tent and full hook-up parcels available.
Of course the strong spring rains mean grass seed has yet to blossom and theer's still a wee bit of construction going on, but otherwise it's good to go.
What's Up at the Parks Department
The Bluffton Parks Department and Bluffton Tigers Football Team is now registering boys age 7-10 for Flag Football. Camp will be June 22-26th from 1-3pm in the Bluffton Practice Field (located behind the tennis courts). This camp will teach basic fundamentals and emphasize teamwork. Ouabache State Park star party, May 29
The Fort Wayne Astronomical Society and the Warsaw County Astronomical Society are co-hosting a star-gazing party at Ouabache State Park, May 29.
Guests are invited to view the night sky using the societies’ telescopes. Members will be on hand to answer questions about the stars and telescopes, and to direct gazers towards points of interest.
The event starts at 10 p.m. and is open to all. Participants should park at the pool and meet on the large hill next to the pool.
There is no fee for the event. Park entrance fees of $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents and $7 per vehicle for non-residents will apply.

Muncie horse club to host free Trail Ride for 4-Hers June 7
The Muncie Light Horse Club will host a trail ride at Prairie Creek Reservoir for 4-H members Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 9 a.m. Membership may be with any county club. Hot dogs and pop will be provided.
Located at Prairie Creek Reservoir horse trail parking lot at County Road 475 East in Delaware County. The event is free to 4-H members who are current members of the Muncie Light Horse Club. For those who are not members of the club trail day passes may be purchased for $5. Annual passes are also available at $25. Camera Workshop June 11
Bob Goines from Sunny Schick Camera Store in Fort Wayne will host, “Better pictures with your digital SLR” at the Wells County Public Library Thursday, June 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. This workshop for adults is great for beginners and a refresher for others for single lens reflex digital cameras (removable/interchangeable lens).
Bob will go through the basic functions of digital SLRs, offer tips and discuss techniques for getting the best shot. Questions and answers will follow. Ages 17 and up only. Class size limited to 15 and registration is required. Workshop fee is $5 per person, due at registration. Bus trip to Columbus Quilt Show June 20
