The First Church of Christ will sponsor a fish and tenderloin event Saturday, May 2 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Villa North Mall (near Subway). D&D Fish Fry will provide the fish and tenderloins.
Members of the First Church of Christ will provide baked goods for sale.
Proceeds will be used for the summer children's ministry programs. Programs are open to all Wells County children.

Huntington City-Twp. Public Library welcomes local author Carolyn Morris to an author visit and book signing at 6:30 pm on Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Main Library, 200 W. Market Street, Huntington.
A Huntington resident since the age of 17, Morris will discuss the writing of her family memoir, The Journey, Dreams, and AnnaBelle, the steps she took to get it published, and the people who inspired her to write it. Based on her own experiences, and the lives of her mother and grandparents, The Journey, The Dreams, and AnnaBelle is Morris’ first book. She is currently preparing to write a sequel, based on her mother’s adventures, that she plans to title AnnaBelle.
Copies of Morris’ book will be available for purchase at the event, and the author will be happy to sign them. No purchase is required to attend, and the public is invited. For more information, contact the Library at 260-356-0824.

A healing and deliverance service for women entitled “Is God big Enough” will be held Saturday, May 2 from noon to 2 p.m. at The King's Plac at 118 W. Market Street, Blufton.
Local author M. Dianne Ross, author of “When He Heals” will speak about her autobiographical book. There will also be a time set aside for prayer.

Limberlost Nature Day will be held Saturday, May 9 at Geneva.
From 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. there will be a Birding for Beginners led by Morris Gevirtz of Ball State University. It will be held in the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve. Learn bird identification based on flight patterns, silhouettes, behaviors and song. Use birding scopes and enjoy a tour of the marsh.
At 10:30 a.m. a Raptor Release at the Loblolly Marsh parking lot will take place by Diana Shaffer of Wildlife Resqu Haus of Yorktown.
From 11 a.m. to noon there will be a lunch break. Those attending should bring a sack lunch.
From noon to 2 p.m. Nature Programs at the Limberlost education center located in the carriage house behind the Limberlost Cabin. Watch “Close Encounters with Avians,” a program featuring Dwain Michael who shares personal stories about birds.

Local kite enthusiast Dr. Tom Jansen will fly all kinds of kites. Hoosier Kiteflyers will be on hand to help kids build their own FREE sled kites. Every child age 12 and younger will receive a free Personal Pan Pizza coupon.
Those attending are welcome to bring their own kits and compete for prizes.
All kites must fly for at least two minutes to be eligible for prizes. Trophies will be awarded at 3 p.m.

Free Women’s Self Defense Class – Will be held May 16th from 9-12 in the City Gym for ladies age 14 and up. Students will learn pressure point techniques to defend themselves from attackers and receive self defense sticks. Must call 824-6069 to register by May 15.

Featured events include weapons demonstrations, a simulated grenade toss for kids, an indoor display honoring Veterans, and a tactical battle re-enactment, May 16, at 2 p.m.
In case of inclement weather, activities may be moved inside the Visitors Center. Food will be available for purchase. The program is open to the public.
There is no fee for this program; however, park entrance fees of $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents and $7 per vehicle for non-residents will apply.

Saturday in the Park with Charity Auction May 2
Saturday in the Park is back! It will be held Saturday, May 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wells County 4-H Fairgrounds in Bluffton.
There will be a car, bike and truck show (The Boyz of Summer Gearhead Run‚, entertainment with a live DJ, concessions and more.
There will also be a Charity Auction with one of a kind artwork from the “Pinstripers.” All proceeds will go toward the purchase of a handicapped equiped van for Connor Whitesell. There will also be a booth set up to sell t-shirts and signs and to take donations. There is also an account set up for Connor at Wells Fargo Bank.

The Tippecanoe County Historical Association of Lafayette, will sponsor the 42nd annual Feast of the Hunters' Moon Oct. 10 and 11, 2009. The “Feast” derives its name from the moon cycles of the Miami Indian calendar and is held annually along the banks of the Wabash River in the fall during the phase of the “Hunters' Moon.” The event represents the time of homecoming, feasting, dancing and celebrating from the earliest days of historic Fort Ouiatenon.Call 765-476-8411 or log onto: www.tippecanoehistory.org.

The Legion Family Golf Tourney date is set for Sunday June 7 at Timber Ridge Golf Course north of Bluffton. Shotgun tee off time at 8 a.m. Cost is $200 for four players per team. Minimum of two Legion, Aux, or SAL members per team The Post 111 will be open at noon for all Legion members and guest.
The awards and meal will be at the Post for all team members. Food will be available to non players for a donation.
There will be a sign up at the Post for teams and helpers. The team fees need to be paid at time of sign up to guarantee your spot.
The tourney is hoisted by the Post 111 Son of Ameican Legion with proceeds going to local youth, SAL and Legion charities.

Tri-State Bluegrass Festival
May 21-24
The 33rd annual Spring Tri-State Bluegrass Festival will be held over Memorial Day weekend May 21-24 at the Noble County 4-H Fairgrounds in Kendallville.
In addition to the stage shows, there will be plenty of music around the camp fires, day and night, and pickers are welcome and encouraged to join in.
There will be three large covered areas at the stage and concession stands with a variety of food, novelties, compact discs and tapes. Limited bleacher seating is available, so lawn chairs are suggested.
Performing bands include: All4Hym, Carefree Highway, Coaltown, Vince Combs and Shadetree, Echo Valley, Freight Hoppers, James Creek Road, NE Indiana Suzuki Fiddlers, New Southern Drive, Palmer Divide, Rock Islannd Plow Co. and Frank Solivan and Dirty Ktichen.
A weekend pass is $25 and includes camping, limited electric. Water is $5 extra.

Members of the Cardinal Audubon Bird Club will meet for birding at Acres Along the Wabash Tuesday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m.
Acres Along the Wabash Nature Preserve is located in Wells County. Take State Road 1 for one mile to State Road 116 (Dustman Road). and turn left (west). Follow State Road 116 through Murray (approximately 4.6 miles). The Preserve is on the left, 1.25 miles past Murray.

The United Way of Wells County will sponsor a Charity Golf Ball Drop Thursday, June 11 at Timber Ridge Golf Course;
Numbered golf balls will be dropped by a bucket truck at 12:15 p.m. The first ball in the hole will win $500.

Gear Head Run May 2
A Gearhead Run will be held Saturday, May 2 at the Wells County 4-H Fairgrounds in Bluffton. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to noon. There is a $10 registration fee.
There will be cars, trucks, bikes and Pinstripers Panel Jam and a charity auction. Awards and dash plaques will be given. Door prizes, entertainment, a live DJ and vendors will be available.
Birding at Acres May 5
Members of the Cardinal Audubon Bird Club will meet for birding at Acres Along the Wabash Tuesday, May 5 at 4:30 p.m.
Acres Along the Wabash Nature Preserve is located in Wells County. Take State Road 1 for one mile to State Road 116 (Dustman Road). and turn left (west). Follow State Road 116 through Murray (approximately 4.6 miles). The Preserve is on the left, 1.25 miles past Murray.
United Way Golf Ball Drop June 11
The United Way of Wells County will sponsor a Charity Golf Ball Drop Thursday, June 11 at Timber Ridge Golf Course;
Numbered golf balls will be dropped by a bucket truck at 12:15 p.m. The first ball in the hole will win $500.
Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Golf Ball Drop will be at 12:15 p.m. Shotgun start will be at 12:30 p.m.

WILD training class will be held on June 20
The Upper Wabash Interpretive Service will sponsor Project WILD training workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 20 at Salamonie Reservoir's Interpretive Center. There is a $2 per person fee.
During the workshop home educators and leaders will take home two books full of well-researched and easy to use indoor and outdoor learning activities about wildlife and the environment to use with their youth.

What's Up! (Earth Day) Wells County
Buddy, Dewy and Friends to perform April 26 at Dillman
The Dillman U.B. Church will sponsor a performance by Buddy, Dewy and Friends Sunday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
The group is made up of 14 singing guys who will share avariety of music. Mike Schweikhardt and Larry Palmer are Buddy and Dewy. Bridget Schweikhardt is the creative director and Linda Walters is the music director.

Join us for a hot meal, a sing-a-long with Ed Higgins, and entertainment by the Mossburg Strings. A free will offering will be taken to help defray the cost of the meal. Circus coming to Warren May 7
The Kelly Miller Circus will be near the Warren Huggy Bear Quick Stop at the intersection of I-69 and SR5 Thursday May 7 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The Circus is being sponsored by the Salamonie Active Mens Club. Tickets for children under 12 years old are $6 and adult tickets are $10. Tickets are available at the Warren Pharmacy.

Banquet May 9
The deadline for making a reservation for the Warren Alumni Banquet is fast approaching. The banquet will be held at t he Knight-Bergman Center in Warren Saturday, May 9. Social hour will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by dinner and the program at 6:30 p.m.
All former students, teachers and friends of the Warren School are encouraged to attend the events. The classes of 1949 and 1959 will be recognized as honored classes. A free Boater Education Class is being offered May 16 by the INDR Law Enforcement Division and instructed by State Conservation officers at the Salamonie Interpretive Center.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To save a spot call 765-473-9722.
The Boater Education Class is required to operate a motorboat of 10hp or more on public waters in Indiana.
The course will cover the following: personal watercraft operation and use; proper personal flotation device use; state regulations and laws; nighttime operation concerns; basie first aid; what to do if involved in an accident.

auditions May 28 & 30
The 2009 Berne Swiss Days celebration will include, as a feature event, the Broadway production “The Sound of Music,” to be presented in the South Adams High School Burkhalter Auditorium on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 24, 25 and 26.
Try-outs are now being scheduled and are open to area children, teens and adults. Auditions will be held Thursday, May 28, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Auditioning individuals should come prepared to sing a song from one of the following categories: Children, “My Favorite Things;” Women, “The Sound of Music;” and Men, “Edelweiss.” An accompanist will be provided for auditions, and call backs, if needed, will be Monday, June 1.
Children in the cast will begin rehearsing Monday, June 15. Adult cast members will begin rehearsing one week later on Monday, June 22, with rehearsals four nights each week until the July performances.
Interested individuals can schedule an audition by calling the Berne Chamber of Commerce office at (260) 589-8080.
