Youngsters Block Party Feb. 3 

On Tuesday, Feb. 3rd from 11 a.m.-noon in the Bluffton City Gym a Block Party for Youngsters will be held. This is a free, drop in event for any young child, no need to register. Block Party events provide an opportunity for parents to interact and play with their children while learning how they can help them develop a variety of skills through block play.

Five stations are set up, each with a different set of blocks that aids the children in learning a specific skill. Parents are provided with parenting tips and information on how they can help their child develop each skill to the best of their ability. Call 824-6069.

Knitting class begins Feb. 9

Chicks with Sticks, a knitting classs, will teach those attending to create handmade items.

Classes will be taught Mondays on the second floor of the City Hall building from 3-4 p.m. Cost for three, one hour group lessons are $12 due the first day, classes, which are Feb. 9, 16, 23. Yarn and instructions will be provided. Those attending will need to bring their own knitting needles.  Call the park office to pre-register at 824-6069. Class size is limited and open to beginners and advanced students. 

Crochet class begins Feb. 10

Learning how to crochet and you can learn to create handmade items for yourself and people you love. 

Classes will be taught by Kathy Gehrett on the second floor of the City Hall building from 3-4 p.m. Cost for three,  one hour group lessons on Feb. 10, 17 and 24 are $12 and are due the first day.  Yarn and instructions will be provided. Thsoe attending  need to bring their own size H hook.

Mother Son Dance Feb. 15

Totally Awesome 80’s Mother Son Dance tickets are now on sale in the Clerk Treasurer’s office at city hall. Prices are $5 per person, all ages welcome. The dance will be held at the 4-H building on Sunday, Feb. 15 from 2-4 p.m. and will include dancing, refreshments, door prizes for the boys and a photo area.  There will also be an award for the raddest costume, so tease up your hair go crazy!

Daddy Daughter Dance Feb. 15

The Daddy Daughter 80’s Dance tickets are on sale now!!! 

Go back to the days of metal bands and big hair, grab some leg warmers, muscle shirts, or acid wash to wear.  Tickets are $5 per person, all ages welcome. The dance will be held at the 4-H building on Sunday, Feb. 15 from 6-8 p.m. and will include dancing, refreshments, door prizes for the girls, and a photo area.  There will be an award for the raddest costume, so tease up your hair, grab your blue eye shadow and go crazy!

Craft vendors needed

Craft vendors are needed for the third annual Allen County 4-H Fairgrounds Craft Bazaar. 

It will be held on Saturday Oct. 24 at the Allen County 4-H Fairgrounds from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost for an 8 foot booth space, with table, will be $35. There is a $5 discount per table if application is received by March 31, 2015.

Down the Line 9 entertainer 

Among the area entertainers to be performing on Friday, Feb. 27, at the Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre in Down the Line 9 will be Staci Stork.

The event features two nights of the best local bands in Northern Indiana. Stork and her recent band, Scarlett will take on the musical styling of Katy Perry.  Others performing on Feb. 27, will be Wayward Son, Grateful Groove, James and the Drifters and Stirface. Admission is $15 or a two day pass is $25.

Fort Wayne Ice Rink open at Headwaters Park

Outdoor ice skating is now offered at Fort Wayne’s Headwaters Park and will continue with hours through March 1.

Admission is $3 for those 13 and under, $5 for those 14 and over with a $2 charge for skate rental. There is no admission for spectators and parking is free.

Hours will vary. On Nov. 26 the hours will be from 1 to 10 p.m. during the Night of Lights celebration in downtown Fort Wayne.

Watercolor art at Van Wert gallery begins Jan. 24

The Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert, Ohio will host the 147th Annual International Traveling Exhibit of the American Watercolor Society, beginning on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Forty paintings were selected for the traveling show that will have an open house on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. 

Other viewing hours will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

FW Youtheatre’s next production Feb. 6-8

Black comedy next for FW’s Arena Theatre Jan. 23-Feb. 7

“The Smell of the Kill” will be the black comedy to be presented at the Fort Wayne Arena Dinner Theatre Jan. 23 to Feb. 7. The production is rated for mature audiences as it tells the tale of three malicious wives, three miserable husbands and three failing marriages.

It will be presented the Friday and Saturdays of Jan. 23-24, Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 6-7, at 8 p.m. each evening. Dinner before the show begins at 7 p.m. Dinner and show is $35. For more information and reservations call 26-424-5622.

Legion  Auxiliary sending care packages to troops

A project collecting and mailing donated items to overseas troops is currently underway through the efforts of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 111. 

In the main hallway of Post 111 is a table with lists of suggested items and a collection box. Anyone wishing to support this project may do so by dropping off items at the Legion Tuesday through Saturday from 11a.m. to 7 p.m.

Deadline is Jan. 28. After the deadline auxiliary members will sort, pack and mail to the troops.

Senior Citizens Dinner Feb. 11

New Hope Lutheran Church, located on the south edge of Ossian, will host a quarterly Senior Citizens Dinner Thursday, Feb. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The event is for those age 55 or older.

Ed Higgins will lead a sing-a-long and Darlene Hackett will play a hammered dulcimer.

FW Philharmonic concerts listed

The Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre and the Rhinehart Music Center at IPFW will host Fort Wayne Philharmonic concerts during February and March.

On Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m. “Wicked Divas,” a pops concert, will be held at the Embassy. The music featured will be from the Tony award winning show “Wicked.” There also will be selections from Gypsy, Ragtime, Titanic and Carmen. Swiss Stichers to meet Jan. 26

Members of the Swiss Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Social Corner at Swiss Village in Berne.

Susan Lesh will be the leader this month. She will do a demo on knitted cowl scarf that anyone can make. Bring a ball of chunky and make your own. One can be made in about 15 minutes.

A review of members’ personal goals for 2014 and the opportunity to write new goals for 2015 will be addressed.

The Heartland Quilters will host the 25th Annual Gathering of Quilters this year. It will be held Saturday, April 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Northern Indiana Event Center (RV & MH Hall of Fame Complex in Elkhart).

Pre-Registration is $20 and includes lunch and a number of special items.

Stuff and Fluff Feb. 9

Stuff and Fluff  will be held Monday, Feb. 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall for ladies to bring that special child in their life for a memorable evening. Their eyes will light up as both make an adorable stuffed animal to take home.

Be sure to wear play clothes since those attending will be doing valentine crafts and enjoying a special treat.

Antique Arms Show Feb. 21 & 22

Members of Conner Longrifles will sponsor the 32nd Antique Arms Show Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds Exhibition Center in Noblesville.

Admission is $7 per person or $10 for a two day pass. The show is devoted to antique arms related items and reproductions representing the period prior to 1900.

Fort Wayne’s Artlink will be showcasing two exhibits from Jan. 23 to March 4.

Rock, Paper, Scissors and the 6th Annual Postcard Sale and Fundraiser will have an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Work by art students from the Memorial Park Middle School will be hung in the Betty Fishman Memorial Gallery. The students in the magnet school from sixth to eighth graders.

Theater Thursday Jan. 15

Theater Thursday, the free movie for adults, will be held on Jan. 15. The movie will  be “Heaven is for Real”, which is rated PG. 

The Bluffton Parks and Recreational Department, Wells County Public Library and Bluffton Regional Senior Circle have partnered together to offer a free monthly movie.  The video will be shown at 10 a.m. at the Wells County Public Library. Bummie’s Night at Post 111 Jan. 24

On Saturday, Jan. 24 “Bummie’s Night” will be held at the American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Proceeds from sale of food will benefit the Steve Kelly Cancer Relief Foundation.

Friends of the Shelter meeting Jan. 12

Friends of the Shelter, the organization that provides support for the Bluffton/Wells County Animal Shelter, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 in the council chambers on the second floor of City Hall at 128 E. Market St.

Items on the agenda include shelter operations and upcoming Spay-Nueter Clinics.

2015 Dog Park keys available

2015 Dog Park keys are on sale in the Clerk Treasurer’s office in City Hall at 128 E Market for $15 for city residents. Keys are $20 for Wells County residents who live outside of the city limits.  Forms can be found online athttp://www.blufftonindiana.net/parks-department/ to fill it out in advance.  Those wanting a key must provide verification that the dog has current vaccinations and parasite preventative. The dog park is located at 805 W. Market St.

Tot Time Jan. 6

The Tot Time special activity on Tuesday Jan. 6 children will make a pine-cone bird feeder.

Tots can come to the city gym for free play time starting at 11 a.m. and stay for the craft that will begin at 11:45 a.m. This is a FREE event! 

Tot Time is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 11-noon to give children a warm place to run and play. For more information call call 824-6069.

Alzheimer’s Support Meeting Jan. 7

The Wells County Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group will meet at the First United Methodist Church, located at 325 W. Washington St. in Bluffton, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

The meeting is intended for caregivers and family members of a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other dementia related diseases.  Those in attendance will also be given the opportunity to share their experiences of caring for their loved one and to ask questions of the other caregivers in attendance. Blackford 4-H Fair Fundraiser Dinner Jan. 16

A Pork Chop and Pork Burger Fundraiser dinner will be held Friday, Jan. 16 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Blackford High School cafeteria before the Blackford vs. Mississinewa boys basketball game.

Cost is $8 for a boneless pork chop dinner or $6 for a pork burger dinner.

Wells Community Gospel Benefit Jan. 3

The Steve Kelly Cancer Relief Foundation will sponsor the third Wells Community Gospel Benefit Concert Saturday, Jan. 3 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the 4-H Community Building at the Wells County 4-H Park in Bluffton. There will be 10 local singing groups, a live auction, a silent auction and a raffle. Doors will open at 5 p.m. There will be concessions available. Anyone wanting to donate items for the auction can drop off or call Kelly Collision at 824-3995, Outdoor Concepts at 824-5189, Family Ford of Bluffton at 824-2300 or NAPA at 824-4460. 

Admission and childcare is free. All proceeds will go to help Wells County residents who are battling cancer.

Gospel benefit concert and auction Jan. 3 for Kelly Cancer Relief Foundation

This will be the third year that the Steve Kelly Cancer Relief Foundation has held a Wells Community Gospel Benefit Concert. There is no admission charge.

This year it will be held at the 4-H Community Building on Saturday, Jan. 3, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. (Doors will open at 5 p.m. for those who would like to try out the concessions—including hot dogs, chili, nachos and cheese and hot ham-n-cheese sandwiches.) Free baby-sitting will be offered.

A silent auction will offer tempting items and a live auction also will be held. Nine local singing groups will offer entertainment throughout the evening.

Scheduled to appear are the Wells Community Choir, Sherry Mann and Denise Ferguson, CC Trio, Shane Brothers, Psalm 100, Kylie Gerber, Lisa Frauhiger and Sam Steffen, Al Grogg Group and Jordan Streveler (2013 Street Fair Idol winner).

Last year this event raised over $40,000 that assisted with funding needs for Wells County residents battling cancer.

Chicks with Sticks Knitting classes will be taught Mondays on the second floor of the City Hall building from 3-4 p.m. Cost for (3)  one hour group lessons are $12 due the first day. Walking Program underway

The Parks and Recreation Department will begin Weekday Walking Oct. 1. The city gym will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., free of charge, to any adult who would like to get some exercise during the cold months. 

Participants can enter the glass door on the Westside of the building and sign in on the wooden door each day you attend. If you are the last to leave the gym please turn off the light in the south west corner of the gym. One mile equals 20 laps.

Adult Badminton

Adult Badminton is held every Thursday night until Dec. 11 (except Thanksgiving) from 7-9 p.m. in the Bluffton City Gym.

Winter garden party at Embassy Dec. 28

A Winter Garden party, inspired by  Downton Abbey will be offered as a fundraiser for the Embassy Theatre and PBS Channel 39 on Sunday, Dec. 28, from 4 to 6 p.m.

A special themed “upstairs/downstairs” menu will be presented along with historic music and vintage games.

There also will be a display of authentic 1920s era dresse as well as a 1920s themed costume contest and raffle.

There will be preferred seating for a showing of the first 60 minuets of the first episode of Season 5 of Downton Abbey.

On Sunday, Dec. 21 members of the Epworth United Methodist Church Choir will present the Christmas musical “Go, Tell It! The Story of Christmas for All the World” during the 9:30 a.m. worship service at 1204 W. Cherry Street in Bluffton.

Sneak preview of Downton Abbey Dec. 28

On Sunday, Dec. 28, the Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre will host a sneak preview of Season 5 of Downton Abby.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. screening. There is no admission charge and seating is first-come, first-served. There will be a 1920s costume contest with prizes as well as a display of historic period dresses. The event is sponsored by PBS 39 and the Embassy Theatre.

Wells Community Gospel Benefit Concert Jan. 3

The Steve Kelly Cancer Relief Foundation will sponsor the third Wells Community Gospel Benefit Concert Saturday, Jan. 3 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the 4-H Community Building at the Wells County 4-H Park in Bluffton.

There will be 10 local singing groups, a live auction, a silent auction and a raffle. Doors will open at 5 p.m. There will be concessions available.

Heartland plans swingin’ singin’ New Year’s Eve

Heartland, northeast Indiana’s only professional vocal ensemble, is offering the first large-scale New Year’s Eve celebration in Fort Wayne since the gala event held in connection with the 1994 bicentennial.

Billed as “A Swinging’ Singing’ New Year’s Eve” the evening will include entertainment by jazz vocalists from Heartland and the Heartland Big Band Jazz Orchestra.

The event will be held at the Convention Hall at the Grand Wayne Center with tickets priced at $60 per person. (This includes admission to the live dynamic show from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., hors d’oeurves throughout the evening, one free drink ticket and at midnight a champagne toast. Dance exhibit  next for FWMA

Next exhibit at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art will highlight Dance Theatre of Harlem’s 40-plus year history. The exhibit will be viewable December 10 to March 15.

Twenty-five costumes and accessories, set pieces, documentary video excerpts, historical photographs and tour poster will be featured. It also will include our dramatically-staged ballets that are iconic to the company—A Streetcar Names Desire, Creole Giselle, Dougle and Firebird.

Dispelling the belief that ballet could not be performed by those of African descent, Arthur Mitchell and  Karel Shook founded the Dance Theatre of Harlem in 1960. It has since grown into a multi cultural dance institution.

Other exhibit at the museum include “Beautiful and Obsolete: Obituaries for the Machine Age” through Jan. 4 and “Crossing Liens: Contemporary Art from Coast to Coast” through Jan. 18.

The museum is open on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. (Closed Christmas and New Year’s days.) Holiday pops concerts at the FW Embassy in December

Five Holiday Pops concerts are being offered by the Fort Wayne Philharmonic this season.

There will be 7:30 p.m. concerts on Friday, Dec. 12, Saturday, Dec. 13, Friday, Dec. 19 and Saturday, Dec. 20 as well as 2 p.m. concerts on Saturday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 20.

The Bluffton Parks and Recreation willsponsor a free Cookie and Candy Exchange Thursday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. at City Hall in Bluffton. This is a way to try a variety of homemade treats and take home all of the recipes.

Santa’s visit is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7 from 2– 4 p.m. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to visit with Santa before he makes his trip back to the North Pole to prepare for Christmas Day. 

A photographer will be available, and each child will receive a free photo with Santa. 

Children ages 2-7 will be able to participate in a coloring contest at the Wellness Pavilion when they visit with Santa. First, Second, and Third Place Prizes will be awarded in each age category. All coloring contest entries will be posted through the Wellness Pavilion for the remainder of the Holiday Season.

Movie goers are encouraged to bring their pillows and snacks to the Saturday afternoon free movies presented at the Wells County Public Library in Bluffton and the Saturday mornng ones at the Ossian Branch.

In Bluffton on Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” will be shown.

Children under age six must be accompanied by an adult. Pop con is served at the Bluffton site. 

Send Santa letters until Dec. 19

From now through Dec. 19 the Bluffton Parks Department will deliver your child’s letter to Santa between. 

Each child will receive a personalized letter back with a small gift enclosed. Please make sure that the child’s name and address are clearly marked on the outside of the envelope. 

Santa’s mailbox is blue and located near the front steps of city hall. This is a free service and no postage is needed.

WCT fundraiser tonight at Pizza Hut

On Monday, Dec. 1, the Wells Community Theatre will be holding a fundraiser at the Pizza Hut in Bluffton.

Cast members will be working as wait staff and singing from 5 to 7:30 p.m. A percentage of each buffet plus tips will assist with expenses for the current production of the musical “White Christmas.” 

Tickets still are available for both performances and may be obtained at the Creative Arts Council office.

 Curtain time on Saturday, Dec. 6, will be 7 p.m. and at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7.

Alzheimer’s Support Group Dec. 3

The Wells County Alzheimer’s support group will meet at the First United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The church is located at 325 W. Washington Street in Bluffton,  The group is intended for caregivers and family members of a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other dementia related diseases.

Polar Express Party at the Ossian Library Dec. 4

 Come aboard as the Ossian Branch Library travels to the North Pole via a Polar Express Party on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. 

This program is for pre-school through fifth grades and registration is required.  Those attending will enjoy some hot chocolate, play a game, and create a take-home craft.

Hometown Christmas Dec. 5

The Ossian Hometown Christmas will be held Friday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in downtown Ossian.

Activities include Helen Witte chili at the parking lot behind BKM Realty, tree lighting featuring the Jefferson Street Singers at the library, live holiday music throughout downtown, Don Ferrell’s elf train on East Craig Street, and the Ossian Nazarene Church sponsored live nativity at the south end of downtown.

Bring cameras for pictures with Santa at the former Brew Ha plus the Psi Otes Sorority will be accepting donations for the Ossian Community Food Bank and selling fundraising cheeseballs for $7. Non-perishable food items are requested for the food bank.

Business will have open houses. Vote for your favorite dessert or appetizer, window decorations, and decorated tree.

Parks’ Princess Party will be Jan. 31

The Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a Princess Party at 10 a.m. Jan. 31, 2015, at Sassafras on Main, 218 S. Main St. Tickets are on sale now in the Clerk Treasurer’s office at City Hall at 128 E. Market Street. Cost is $10 per adult and $15 per child. 

The party will include sipping hot cocoa, tasting cookies, meeting the Snow Queen, dancing, singing, a craft and plenty of time for photos and autographs. Princess or dressy attire is appropriate.

Christmas in the castle at USF Dec. 5-7

Christmas in the Castle will be welcoming visitors at the University of Saint Francis Dec. 5-7.

All three floors of the ornate mansion will be open and decorated. Fifteen trees will be located throughout the house and 13 fireplaces will be decorated as well.

The 22-room home was built by industrialist/banker John Henry Bass. In 1982 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. 

Hours are 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5; noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 7. Admission is $6 per person of $25 per family. Senior day is noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10 and admission is $4. Free parking at the north campus across Spring St. by the mansion.

Holly Trolley shopping in FW

On Saturday, Nov. 29, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. downtown Fort Wayne will offer trolly rides during the Holly Trolley Shopping event.

Dozens of shops, museums and galleries will be open for visitors to check out. Riding is free.

The Nutcracker begins Dec. 3

Audiences of all ages will enjoy a combination of dance as Ball State University’s dancers and choreographers put a twist on the age-old classic story, “The Nutcracker.” The production will kick off the holiday season at the University Theatre stage at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3-6 and 11-13, with a matinee performance at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

Tickets for “The Nutcracker” cost $18 for the general public, $17 for faculty and staff, $15 for senior citizens and $13 for students.

Free Tot Candy Cane Hunt Dec. 2

The Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a free Tot Candy Cane Hunt Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. in the city gym.

 At 11:45 a.m. participants will be brought upstairs to search for the sweet treats. 

The Bluffton City Gym is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon to give children the space to run and play with others their age. Some balls are provided in the closet at the East end of the gym, but feel free to bring your own favorite toys too. The first Tuesday of every month has a special craft or activity planned.

Art for the Holidays at the Orchard Gallery in Fort Wayne will feature handmade ornaments and nativities as well as other artwork. 

Hours for the open house will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6. Other holiday hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

30th year for Embassy’s Festival of Trees

The Embassy’s Festival of Trees began in 1984 as a fundraiser for the theater. The theme for this year’s festival is “30 Years of Holiday Cheer.”

Live entertainment on the stage will feature local groups. Children can get their photos snapped with characters from the movie “Frozen,” Icy Eagle and the Mad Ant on Nov. 26 and again on Tots and Trees Day on Dec. 3. Fort Wayne’s Embassy Theatre will host Breakfast with Santa on Nov. 28 and 29, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on the Embassy stage. Fort Wayne Gingerbread Festival at  History center

Over 100 gingerbread creations will be featured at the Festival of Gingerbread to be held at the History Center in Fort Wayne from Nov. 28 to Dec. 14.

Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Christmas at Fort Wayne Old Fort & Trolley Rides

On Saturday, Nov. 29, a simpler era will be celebrated at Christmas at the Old Fort in Fort Wayne.

There will be activities for children, a bake sale and pop up gift shops featuring items crafted by period artisans.

Hours will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there is no admission charge. (Donations will be encouraged, however, to help support this piece of this Fort Wayne’s history.)

Also on Nov. 29, the Holly Trolley will be running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. connecting the downtown area with the Old Fort.

Weekday walk program begins

The Parks and Recreation Department will begin Weekday Walking Oct. 1. The city gym will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., free of charge, to any adult who would like to get some exercise during the cold months. Participants can enter the glass door on the Westside of the building and sign in on the wooden door each day you attend. If you are the last to leave the gym turn off the light in the south west corner of the gym. One mile equals 20 laps.

Talent day at Saint Francis Dec. 5

The annual Talent Day hosted by the University of Saint Francis will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rolland Art Center, 2701 Spring St. in Fort Wayne.

Students who are interested in attending the university are invited to submit a portfolio or audition for scholarships. The portfolios and auditions will be critiqued by a School of Creative Arts faculty member.

From this review, outstanding students will be awarded talent scholarships to attend USF.

Holiday windows at Embassy

From Nov. 26 through Jan. 1, the Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre’s windows will showcase animated elves, Santa and other holiday characters, reminiscent of the holidays in downtown Fort Wayne when Wolf & Dessauer unveiled holiday decorations.

The first two windows along Harrison Street will be decorated by Stan Sheets, long-time designer for L. S. Ayres and Macy’s. Utilized will be some of the original W & D’s characters owned by the History Center.

The remaining seven windows will feature the story Nena Brown of NDB Designs created for “Merry Mouse.” It illustrates her journey from Fort Wayne to the North Pole to become one of Santa’s toymakers.

The windows have been decorated for the holidays since 2009.

Mental health event at FW’s Embassy Nov. 16

“Mother 4 5 and 7even” will be presented at the Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m.

The event is a part of a creative awareness effort to provide insight into while incorporating knowledgeable and educational resources within mental health concerns. The live stage production stars Cynda Williams and introduces Sophia Plummer.

Swiss Days Night Out Nov. 17

The Berne Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Swiss Days Night Out Monday, Nov. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 205 E. Main Street.

Portland’s Arts Place art events

From now through Dec. 19, Arts Place in Portland will be showcasing an exhibit titled Alcove & Friends Holiday Show.

On Friday, Nov. 21 a Holiday Benefit Auction will be held at the Portland Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with free refreshments with the auction to start at 6 p.m. Jay County Beverages will be providing beer samples and Arborshire Wine wine samples. 

Items to be offered at the auction include vacations getaways, movie tickets, museum tickets, sports game tickets, candles, wine, art, gift baskets, fitness center memberships, gift certificates, hair and beauty care products and much more.

Embassy slates wine tasting event

A Sip, Savor and Selec wine tasting fundraiser will be held at the Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Club Soda, Catablu and DeBrand Fine Chocolates will provide hors d’oeuvres and desserts. The theater will be open for tours from the balcony to backstage.

Picture taking on stage will be encouraged as Channel Beauty advisors from Von Maur will be on hand for last minute touch-ups.
