Fish and Chicken fundraiser Nov. 5 at Boehmer
Boehmer United Methodist Church will sponsor an all-you-can-eat fish and chicken supper Saturday, Nov. 5, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

The meat will be prepared by County Line Concessions (Back Door Concessions). Freewill donations will be used for outreach mission projects. The church is located at 3467S. 600W, Liberty Center.

Lions Club Breakfast Nov. 5The Montpelier Lions Club will sponsor a sausage gravy and biscuit breakfast Saturday, Nov. 5, from 7 to 10 a.m. at the club located at the corner of High and Jefferson streets. The meal will include sausage gravy and biscuits, hash browns, juice and coffee.

Christian New Light Church flea market Nov. 5

A Celebration of Faith and Joy performance Nov. 5  & 6
The Wells Community Choir, under the direction of Arlene Stoller, will present the 10th annual concert of hymns and anthems in “A Celebration of Faith and Joy!" Saturday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at 202 W. Cherry Street, Bluffton. (One block west of Bluffton Regional Medical Center). The event is free; however, a free will offering will be taken.
 
Noodle Dinner Nov. 6 in Montpelier
The Montpelier Lions Club will sponsor a noodle dinner Sunday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lions Club located at the corner of High and Jefferson streets.

Available will be chicken or beef and noodles and all the trimmings. Carry-out is available. A free will donation will be accepted.

Farm Bureau banquet RSVP by Nov. 6

Knight-Bergman Benefit Luncheon Nov. 6
The Knight-Bergman Center Board of Directors will sponsor a fundraiser luncheon Sunday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The menu will feature baked steak or chicken, potatoes/gravy, green beans, salads, rolls and desserts. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages five to 12 and free for children under age five. Proceeds from the event will go toward upkeep of the building. The board is looking for money to update the heating system, change the old locker rooms into more handicap accessible rest rooms and to upgrade the entire electrical system.
 
Free senior program Nov. 7 at Body Solutions
Are you 60 or over? Do you ever wonder what you should do if attacked? Would you be interested in learning what to do in such a situation? Jim Paxson will present a Senior Self-Defense program. Monday, Nov. 7 at 9:30 a.m. at Body Solutions at 627 N. Main Street, Bluffton,  He will speak about the unique challenges older adults may face when protecting themselves against a personal attack, and what options are available to them. This lecture is open to the public and free of charge to any person age 60 and over. Light refreshments will be served.
 
Unity concert Nov. 6
The public is invited to a gospel concert at the Ossian Church of the Nazarene on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. Featured will be the Unity Quartet.
 
Book discussion of “Room” at the Library Nov. 9
Come talk about this year’s One Book, One County community read title. The program will conclude Wednesday, Nov. 9, with a book discussion during the Brown Bag Book Club from noon to 1 p.m. at the main library. Feel free to bring your lunch and enjoy the lively discussion.

The One Book, One County community read program was held throughout the months of September and October at the Wells County Public Library. This year’s book selection, "Room," by Emma Donoghue.

The One Book, One County program is presented with financial support from the Friends of the Library.

Stamp Collecting Show Oct. 29 & 30
Anthony Wayne Stamp Society will host their annual Stamp Collecting Show Oct. 29 and 30th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran High School at 1601 Saint Joe River Drive, Fort Wayne. Concerto/Aria competition Nov. 19
The Marion Philharmonic Orchestra Friends are announcing the 22nd annual Concerto/Aria competition to be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, in the Butz-Carruth Recital Hall on the campus of Taylor University, Upland. High School and Collegiate divisions are sponsored with the winner in each division receiving $250 and a performance with the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra at a regularly scheduled concert.

Candidates are required to play a movement from the standard repertoire that has orchestral accompaniment. Memorization is not required. Candidates must furnish their own accompanist. For more information call the MPO office at 765-662-0012.

Holiday Craft Bazaar and Farmers Market Nov. 5 in Hartford City
The Extension Homemaker's annual Holiday Craft and Bazaar and Farmers Market will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Blackford County 4-H Building in Hartford City.

Rare book show at Beech Grove Nov. 6
On Sunday, Nov. 6, a Book, Postcard, Political and Paper Show will be held at the Beech Grove High School Gym from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Featured will be rare books, autographed books, cookbooks, general reading books, thousands of postcards by topics, movie posters, magazines and other paper items of interest.

Model railroad show and swap Oct. 29
The Maumee Valley Railroad Club Inc., will sponsor a model railroad show and swap Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. at 2 p.m. at Coliseum Bingo at 911 W. Washington Center Road in Fort Wayne. Sigma Phi Gamma is once again making black raspberry pies for the holidays. Phil’s Halloween Spooktacular Oct. 23
On Sunday, Oct. 23, at 2 p.m. the Fort Wayne Philharmonic will present a “Halloween Spooktacular” as part of the STAR Family Series at the Auer Hall at IPFW. A preconcert activity will include a costume contest for children attending with prizes for the best costume.

Children also can get acquainted with the orchestra’s instruments at the Philharmonic Friends’ Instrument Playground beginning at 1 p.m.

The Phil’s new assistant conductor, Sameer Patel, will be making his debut with the orchestra. Tickets are priced at $12 for adults and $6 for children and may be arranged for by calling 260-481-0777 or online at www.fwphil.org.

Make recycled jewelry Oct. 25 at the library

The Ossian Halloween carnival will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ossian Health Care Center parking lot. Activities include carnival games, putt-putt, a straw maze, face painting, pumpkin coloring, children’s costume parade, costume judging with prizes, and more. CAC food group to Indy restaurant
It will be a road trip for the Creative Arts Council’s food group as they travel to Indianapolis on Thursday, Oct. 27, to the Heidelberg Haus.

The menu will include bratwurst, any German pastries, danishes and more.

Cost of the trip is $3 and whatever amount of spending money for the trip and meal. The group will leave from the Arts Commerce & Visitors Centre at noon on Oct. 27.

Deadline Nov. 1 for senior dinner
New Hope Lutheran Church, south edge of Ossian, will host its quarterly senior citizens’ dinner on Thursday, Nov. 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

The dinner is for anyone in the community age 55 or better.

Pianist doctoral recital at First Baptist Oct. 14
Ball State postgraduate student Christopher Ruggiero will present his doctoral piano recital Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at 202 W. Cherry Street, Bluffton (one block west of Bluffton Regional).

He will play selections composed by Beethoven, Debussy, Liszt and Chopin. The public is welcome to attend the free concert.

Pennville Fall Jubilee Oct. 15
The fifth annual Pennville Fall Jubilee will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities include a largest pumpkin contest, games, food, music, face painting, haunted lawn and photo spots. Spooktacular Car Show Oct. 15
A "Spooktacular" car, truck and bike show will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at Glenbrook Square Mall in Fort Wayne.

Registration is from 8 a.m. to noon. Awards will be at 3:30 p.m. Dash plaques are available for the first 125 entries. Goody bags are available for the first 75 entries.

Parks Department offers Howl-o-ween Pet Photo contest
Snap a photo of your pet in a Halloween costume and send it to the Parks office for the Howl-o-ween Pet Photo contest. All entries will be displayed at the Autumn Adventure. The winner will be called in early November to pick up his or her prize. Call 824-6069.

Open gym has begun
Open gym has begun for students in grades K-12. They are invited to the city gym for supervised play every day usually from 4 to 7 p.m. Basketballs and other equipment are provided during this time. Times vary for special events so be sure to pick up a calendar in the gym. Call 824-6069.

Free dodgeball in October
Students in middle school can drop into the city gym between 6 and 7:30 p.m. each Monday night in October for free dodge ball. Call 824-6069.

Fall events at Swiss Village set Oct. 15
Events to be held at Berne’s Swiss Village this fall include a horse show on Saturday, Oct. 15, beginning at 10 a.m. There will be open classes for all ages. The annual Swiss Heritage spaghetti supper will be held at South Adams schools on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., prior to the Berne Halloween parade.

Black Raspberry Pies available for the holidays
Sigma Phi Gamma is once again making black raspberry pies for the holidays.

Warren RoadRunners trip to Pickle Factory Oct. 11
The Warren RoadRunners will travel to G.W. Stroh Orchards & Sechler's "The Pickle Factory" on Tuesday, Oct. 11. G.W. Stroh Orchards grows 30 varieties of apples. Also avaialble will be cider, honey, pumpkins, apple butter, jams and jellies. An apple variety chart will be available on the bus. The Pickle Factory is stocked with plenty of pickles, condiments and other pickled products. A lunch stop is planned at Clay's Family Restaurant.

Lyrical dance classes to begin Oct. 14
The Creative Arts Council’s School of Ballet is offering lyrical dance classes beginning on Friday, Oct. 14, at the Arts Commerce & Visitors Centre studio.

Lyrical dance is a combination of ballet and jazz dance. This class is for students aged 10 to 21 and will be held on six Fridays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Amanda Burman will be the instructor.

Kinder Haus BBQ Chicken Dinner Oct. 14
Swiss Village’s Kinder Haus Day Care will be host a drive-thru chicken dinner fundraiser Friday, Oct. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets will be sold by pre-sale only.

The dinner will include Romers half chicken, applesauce, potato chips, and dinner roll with butter.

Tickets can be purchased for $7 at the Swiss Village front desk or Kinder Haus Day Care through Oct. 7, 2011.

Dinners can be picked up at the Swiss Village circle drive entrance Oct. 14 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Hope Missionary Church on Dustman Road will host a bake sale to benefit the pro-life movement Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the church's Family Life Center.

Sausage Gravy Biscuit breakfast Oct. 8
The Chester Township Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor an all-you-can-eat sausage gravy and biscuit breakfast Saturday, Oct. 8, from 7 to 10 a.m. at the fire station located south of Southern Wells High School. A freewill donation will be accepted.

Free Gospel Concert Oct. 9
A free Gospel concert featuring the One Occord will be held Sunday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. at Ossian Church of the Nazarene located at 302 N. Metts Street.

Weather permitting the concert will be held outdoors. In case of inclement weather it will be held in the sanctuary. A love offering will be taken.

Street Fair Horse and Pony Meeting Oct. 9
There will be a meeting Sunday, Oct. 9, at 4:30 p.m. at the Wells County 4-H Park in the Quonset building.

Tentative plans for next year's activities will be discussed. All Horse and Pony participants and exhibitors are encouraged to attend the meeting.

Fall Flower Arranging Demonstration Oct. 10
The Wells County Public Library’s Good Things Club is sponsoring a fall flower arranging demonstration on Monday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m.

The presenter for the class will be Bonnie Harris. She works part-time throughout the year at the Posy Pot in Bluffton and helps design flowers for special events.

The event is open to anyone in the community.

Bereavement Education Program Oct. 11

Haunted Woods Trail Oct. 14-15 & 21-22
The 6th-annual Haunted Woods Trail will be held Oct. 14-15 and Oct. 21-22 in Rochester on the Fulton County Historical Society grounds on the north side of the Tippecanoe River four miles north of Rochester on U.S. 31. Hours are 7:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. or until crowd is done.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children 6 to 11, and free for children 5 and under. Free tram rides from museums and free parking lot to haunted area. See the headless horseman and spooky scenes in the woods. Fulton County Museum and Round Barn Museum and Living History Village called Loyal are at the north end of grounds. Haunted area is at south end of grounds in woods. Handicapped facilities are available.
