UPWARD SOCCER REGISTRATION
Children between the ages of 4 and 8th grade are eligible to play Upward Soccer. Games begin August 15. Evaluations begin next week – if you are not yet registered, you can bring your kids to evaluations next Monday (Jul 6), Tuesday (Jul 7), or Thursday (Jul 9) anytime between 5:30 & 7:30 PM and get them registered and evaluated all at once! Stop by Hope Missionary Church, on east Dustman Road in Bluffton, Monday thru Friday or visit the display in the Gathering Area on Sunday to obtain registration forms ahead of time. (You can also pick up registration forms at Pizza Hut and the Public Library in Bluffton.)

Fort Wayne: Fireworks will begin at 10:15 p.m. Saturday at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Leo-Cedarville: Fireworks begin at dusk Saturday at Riverside Gardens Park at Schwartz and Leo-Grabill roads.
DeKalb County
Auburn: Fireworks start at dusk July 5 at Kruse Auction Park, off Interstate 69 at exit 126.
Butler: Butler residents can enjoy a fireworks display July 11 at the conclusion of the Heartland Festival.

Entry deadline for 4-H Talent Show is July 13
Entry forms are available for the annual 4-H Talent Show which will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, during the annual Wells County 4-H Fair in Bluffton. Forms are due Monday, July 13.
The contestants will be divided into three grade classifications: Class A, Grades 1 and 2; Class B, Grades 3 through 6; and Class C, Grades 7 through 12. The grade in school is based on Jan. 1 of this year.
Within each class, participants may enter in vocal, instrumental or other. All contestants must be present 4-H members.
Youth will be able to participate in a sound check between 5 and 6:30 p.m..
Awards will be presented to winners in each category and the Mack Shultz Award will be presented to the top talent winner. The award is presented in memory of Mack Shultz who was a 10-year 4-H member who loved music. His Air Force jet disappeared off the coast of Florida in the Bermuda Triangle. Mack was the son of the late Shirley and Galen Shultz and brother to Peggy (Norman) Schweikhardt of Warren.
Applications are available from 4-H leaders or from the Wells County Office of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service at 1240 S. 4-H Road. The Extension office's phone number is 824-6412.

What's Up (with this heat?)
Antique and Appraisal Fair June 27 at Five Points
The Friends of Five Points School will sponsor an Antique and Appraisal Fair Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5250W-1100S-90, Montpelier.
This is the first time the Friends of Five Points School has held the fair which is based on the popular PBS series Antique Roadshow. There will be volunteer appraisers on site to offer free verbal appraisals. There will also be displays of antiques and collectibles from local collectors.
The Friends will be selling brats with fried sauerkraut, peppers and onions. Plain brats, hot dogs and cold drinks will also be available. For more information call Dee Harrold at 260-824-5461 or 260-273-9144.

The Wells County Historical Museum will sponsor an Ice Cream Social Sunday, June 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. at 420 W. Market Street in Bluffton. A free will donation will be accepted.
While enjoying ice cream those attending can check out the genealogy display and the display of Wells County churches.
Barry Jamison will provide the entertainment.
Go-Kart Race June 28 in Hartford City
The Hartford City Heritage Cup Go-Kart Race will be held Sunday, June 28 at the Sigma Phi Gamma Park in Hartford City. Practice will start at 11 a.m. The race will begin at 2 p.m.
Karts racing include: Flat Karts, Clones, Animal Champs, Junior Blue Plate Champs, Junior Purple Plate Champs, Senior Champs, Kid Karts and Junior Naskarts. The park is located in the 700 block of N. Richmond, just two blocks west of State Road 3.
Stitches of Hope Work Day June 29
Stitches of Hope, a volunteer group that crochets, sews, and knits caps for people who have lost hair due to illness will meet at the Bluffton United Methodist Church, located at 325 W. Washington St., Monday, June 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.
There is no charge to join. All crafters, or people who just want to get involved, are welcome! Call 260-824-8573 for more information.

Pre-Newfoundland Tour Concert June 30
The Fort Wayne Children's Choir will perform in concert Tuesday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at First Wayne Street United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne. Admission is free.
On July 4, fifty-five members of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir will depart Fort Wayne for St. John’s, Newfoundland to participate in Festival 500, an international choral festival. Since its inception in 1997, approximately 120 choirs representing 28 countries have taken part in this community of singing. FWCC’s Concert Choir and Youth Chorale will participate in rehearsals and workshops, culminating in a massed performance on July 12. There will also be opportunities for sightseeing and visiting local shops and restaurants.
Ossian Community-Wide Celebration June 30
Ossian Revitalization Committee will sponsor a Community Wide Celebration Tuesday, June 30 from 6 p.m. to dark at Ossian Health Care.
There will be a children's parade, live entertainment, music and children's games. The theme is centered on patriotism. The evening will end with a fireworks display. Those attending should bring their lawn chairs and picnic food.

The 4-H Fun Run/Walk will be held July 18 at 7:30 a.m. at the Wells County 4-H Park in Bluffton. Cost is $15 per person.
Race day registration starts at 6:45 a.m. The race starts at 7:30 a.m. Pre-register by June 29 and the cost is only $12. Race day registration is $15. A shorter (about 1 mile) Fun Run for those 12 and under will begin at conclusion of the 5K.
Registration will take place at the large stage at the Wells County 4-H Park. The start/finish lines as well as parking are all located near the stage.
After the race, awards will be presented at the stage to male/female overall winners and those place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in their male/female age divisions. Divisions are split up by 14 & under, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50 & over. There will also be fruit and water following the race.

Iron Kid Triathlon July 25
Children ages five through 12 can compete in a swim, bike, and run contest held on Saturday July 25. Cost is $15 and includes a t-shirt, finishing medal, snacks and trophies to the top three in each age and gender group.

Children are allowed to use fastened floating devices or a parent can assist in the water.
Bike distance is 1.17 miles and training wheels are allowed. Running distance is .65 miles and a parent may run beside the child who is under six years old. Registration forms need to be turned in by July 17. For more information call 824-6069.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 Miss Wells County Pageant. The pageant is scheduled for Monday, July 20, in conjunction with the 4-H Fair. The pageant is open to females ages 16-20 (must be 16 by Aug. 15). The local contest resembles the Indiana State Fair Queen Contest to which the Miss Wells County Pageant is a preliminary.
There will be two workshops to help prepare the contestants for the contest.
The first workshop is slated for July 6 at 6 p.m. at the Wells County Community Center. Workshop #2 will be July 15 at 4 p.m.

Bluffton Park’s Department Iron Kid Triathlon
Children ages 5-12 can compete in a swim, bike, and run contest held on Saturday July 25th. Cost is $15 and includes a t-shirt, finishing medal, snacks and trophies to the top 3 in each age and gender group. Registrations can be printed off from the web site at www.blufftonindiana.net or picked up from the park office at 128 E Market St. Swim distances are as follows: ages 5&6 the width of the pool, 7&8 the width of the pool twice, all others will swim the length of the pool (50 meters). CampIn Fun, June 24 & 25
CampIn Fun, a program designed for youth ages two through five, will be held Wednesday, June 24 and Thursday, June 25 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Salamonie Interpretive Center During the program children and their parent or caregiver will enjoy activities focused around hiking and camping activities. Yard Decorating Contest
Ossian Revitalization Committee is encouraging residents to enter our second annual July 4th Yard Decorating Contest. Judging will be done on June 26 and winners will be announced at the community wide “Celebration” on June 30 at Ossian Health Care. Entry blanks are available at Ossian Town Hall and the Brew Ha!
Moscow Covered Bridge Festival , June 26-28
The 24th annual Moscow Covered Bridge Festival will be held June 26-28 at 6352W., 650S. in Rushville.
There will be arts in the garden, a large flea market, crafts, anqitues, food concessions, trolley and pony rides and observe the rebuilding of the 330 foot bridge that was destroyed in 2008 by a tornado. From Indianapolis take 74 East to 244 East (Exit 119). Go approximately seven miles to 650W. Turn south to Moscow.For more information call 765-629-2892 or log onto: www.moscowfestivalin.org.

The 68th annual Jason Shriner Reunion will be held Sunday, June 28 at the Markle Scout Cabin with a carry-in dinner at 12:30 p.m. Come and share family memories, photographs, music and more!
