Ouabache's interpretive programs are family oriented. Parents and children are encouraged to attend activities together. An adult should accompany children under the age of 10. 11-11:30 a.m. - Hoosier Quest. Connect! Discover! Explore! Learn more about the patch program at the Boat House. After a brief introduction, we'll break up into groups to start working on the requirements. Scouts and other groups are you interested in earning a patch? See the Naturalist to learn about the Hoosier Pathfinder program.

Training series for walkers, runners
Bluffton Regional Medical Center and the Ouabache River Runners are teaming together to offer a training series for walkers or runners looking for help to get ready for the 35th Parlor City Trot. The program consists of weekly meetings each Tuesday for 12 weeks starting on June 16. The participants will be given a training program that will have them ready to finish the event of their choice on race day (10 km, 10 mile or 13.1 mile half-marathon). There also will be an educational part, involving proper footwear, typical training mistakes, injury prevention and treatment, and race-day preparation.

Wawasee High School is hosting two all-comers track and field meets on June 15 and 22 open to first grade and older. Sign up begins at 5:30 p.m. at the high school track. Field events start at 6 and running events at 6:30. Cost is $2 for each person or $5 for a family. There is no limit on the number of events a person can enter.
Events on June 15 include pole vault, high jump, discus, 110 hurdles, 100, 1600, 400, 3200 and 4x100 relay. On June 22, the list includes: pole vault, long jump, shot put, 300 hurdles, 100, 1600, 200, 800 and 4x400. A special 50-meter race will be included for kindergarten and under.

From there, it’s a short drive to Wahk-Shin-Gah Lake. Participants should bring binoculars, bird identification books, drinks and snacks. The program is free to participants using their own kayak. A limited number of kayaks are available for rent. There is a $5 rental fee. Register by calling (260) 468-2127. Park entrance fees of $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents and $7 per vehicle for non-residents will apply.

A scavenger hunt and free prizes are also included in the scheduled events. Concessions (hot dogs, popcorn, JBG’s frozen custard, cookies, pie, McDonald’s Orange Drink, and water) will be sold in conjunction with a bake sale.

After a brief introduction, we'll break up into groups to start working on the requirements. Scouts and other groups are you interested in earning a patch? Home educators, scout leaders and instructors are invited to learn new ways to teach youth about wildlife and the environment at a Project WILD training workshop, June 20, at Salamonie Reservoir’s Interpretive Center.
The workshop aims to provide leaders with new and exciting ways to captivate youth interest in nature. Participants take home two books full of well-researched and easy-to-use indoor and outdoor learning activities.
Adult participants are invited to register their children. Interpretive staff will lead active learning sessions for children in the morning hours. Parents will practice using the activities with their children in the afternoon.

The Bluffton Parks Department and Bluffton Tigers Football Team is now registering boys age 7-10 for Flag Football. Camp will be June 22 to 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Bluffton Practice Field (located behind the tennis courts). This camp will teach basic fundamentals and emphasize teamwork.

Kid’s Safety Day on June 6
The Bluffton Noon Lions Club is partnering with Lowe’s to provide a day of fun, food, and learning about safety on Saturday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lowe’s Parking Lot on the north side of Bluffton.
The Lutheran Chopper will be on site along with local fire and police departments. A Bluffton City Bike Patrol officer will be available to offer free bicycle checks and free helmet fittings, so bring your bicycles and helmets with you.
Wal-Mart is donating a child’s bicycle that will be raffled off at the end of Safety Day. You need not be present to win.
A scavenger hunt and free prizes are also included in the scheduled events. Concessions (hot dogs, popcorn, JBG’s frozen custard, cookies, pie, McDonald’s Orange Drink, and water) will be sold in conjunction with a bake sale.

The Tippecanoe County Historical Association of Lafayette, will sponsor the 42nd annual Feast of the Hunters' Moon Oct. 10 and 11, 2009.
The “Feast” derives its name from the moon cycles of the Miami Indian calendar and is held annually along the banks of the Wabash River in the fall during the phase of the “Hunters' Moon.” The event represents the time of homecoming, feasting, dancing and celebrating from the earliest days of historic Fort Ouiatenon.
Ouiatenon was built in 1717 and then burned to the ground in 1791.
Education is a strong focus of the event Seven different arenas and stages plus numerous locations on the 30 acres of festival grounds feature performances by musicans, interpreters, military re-enactors and Native American groups.

IN THE BALENTINE GALLERY
Coming June 1-July 12, Images of Native Americans: The Wanamaker Collection of Indiana University, a touring exhibit from Indiana University’s Mathers Museum, in coordination with the PBS documentary, “We Shall Remain.” Special evening program on Native American Art on Tuesday, June 23, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., free admission to gallery and presentation.
SCHOOL OF BALLET
BALLET CAMP—July 20-24. Two sessions daily instructed by Jeni Meeks: for new students from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., $35 and refresher for currently enrolled students at 10:30 to noon, $45.
REGULAR CLASSES—will recommence in September. Registrations welcome! Ask for a registration packet to be mailed in August.

KEHOE CONCERTS—Sundays from July 12 through Aug. 30, 7 p.m., free, JBG’s Ice Cream available for purchase. Spike and the Bulldogs will get the new season rolling and rocking on July 12. On July 26 the Eight Days a Week, a Beatles Tribute Band will play at 7 p.m., free.
