Covington Plaza Souper Bowl Cook-off Jan. 31
Participating shops at Covington Plaza will host a Souper Bowl Cook-off to help restock the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission/Charis House and Street Reach for Homeless on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (or while supplies last). 
Those participating should bring a non-perishable food product, travel size toiletries or a monetary donation to help these charities restock after the holiday season.
With a donation to the cause, you get to taste all the soups that are prepared throughout the participating shops in Covington Plaza. 
No purchase required at any of the store, just a donation to the charity.

Prom Dress Exchange March 6
The annual Prom Dress Exchange will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Bluffton (one block west of the Library) on Friday, March 6 from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday, March 7 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.  
Shop the exchange for new and gently used prom dresses in all sizes. A $10 donation would be appreciated for a dress.
Also the prom dress exchange is currently accepting donated dresses, shoes, purses and accessories. No need to have dresses cleaned before donating.  OK Modern Cleaners in Bluffton will clean dresses from the Prom Dress Exchange free of charge.
Note:  Southern Wells Prom is May 9 this year.

Craft vendors needed
Craft vendors are needed for the third annual Allen County 4-H Fairgrounds Craft Bazaar. 
It will be held on Saturday Oct. 24 at the Allen County 4-H Fairgrounds from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost for an 8 foot booth space, with table, will be $35. There is a $5 discount per table if application is received by March 31, 2015.

Youngsters Block Party Feb. 3 
On Tuesday, Feb. 3rd from 11 a.m.-noon in the Bluffton City Gym a Block Party for Youngsters will be held. This is a free, drop in event for any young child, no need to register. Block Party events provide an opportunity for parents to interact and play with their children while learning how they can help them develop a variety of skills through block play.
Five stations are set up, each with a different set of blocks that aids the children in learning a specific skill. Parents are provided with parenting tips and information on how they can help their child develop each skill to the best of their ability. Call 824-6069.

Knitting class begins Feb. 9
Chicks with Sticks, a knitting classs, will teach those attending to create handmade items.
Classes will be taught Mondays on the second floor of the City Hall building from 3-4 p.m. Cost for three, one hour group lessons are $12 due the first day, classes, which are Feb. 9, 16, 23. Yarn and instructions will be provided. Those attending will need to bring their own knitting needles.  Call the park office to pre-register at 824-6069. Class size is limited and open to beginners and advanced students. 

Crochet class begins Feb. 10
Learning how to crochet and you can learn to create handmade items for yourself and people you love. 
Classes will be taught by Kathy Gehrett on the second floor of the City Hall building from 3-4 p.m. Cost for three,  one hour group lessons on Feb. 10, 17 and 24 are $12 and are due the first day.  Yarn and instructions will be provided. Thsoe attending  need to bring their own size H hook.

Mother Son Dance Feb. 15
Totally Awesome 80’s Mother Son Dance tickets are now on sale in the Clerk Treasurer’s office at city hall. Prices are $5 per person, all ages welcome. The dance will be held at the 4-H building on Sunday, Feb. 15 from 2-4 p.m. and will include dancing, refreshments, door prizes for the boys and a photo area.  There will also be an award for the raddest costume, so tease up your hair go crazy!

Daddy Daughter Dance Feb. 15
The Daddy Daughter 80’s Dance tickets are on sale now!!! 
Go back to the days of metal bands and big hair, grab some leg warmers, muscle shirts, or acid wash to wear.  Tickets are $5 per person, all ages welcome. The dance will be held at the 4-H building on Sunday, Feb. 15 from 6-8 p.m. and will include dancing, refreshments, door prizes for the girls, and a photo area.  There will be an award for the raddest costume, so tease up your hair, grab your blue eye shadow and go crazy!

Down the Line 9 entertainer 
Among the area entertainers to be performing on Friday, Feb. 27, at the Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre in Down the Line 9 will be Staci Stork.
The event features two nights of the best local bands in Northern Indiana. Stork and her recent band, Scarlett will take on the musical styling of Katy Perry.  Others performing on Feb. 27, will be Wayward Son, Grateful Groove, James and the Drifters and Stirface. Admission is $15 or a two day pass is $25.

Mercer County Garage Sale Jan. 22-27
A six day garage sale will be held Jan. 22-27 at the Senior Citizen Center at 217 Riley Street in Celina, Ohio.

Fort Wayne Ice Rink open at Headwaters Park
Outdoor ice skating is now offered at Fort Wayne’s Headwaters Park and will continue with hours through March 1.
Admission is $3 for those 13 and under, $5 for those 14 and over with a $2 charge for skate rental. There is no admission for spectators and parking is free.
Hours will vary. On Nov. 26 the hours will be from 1 to 10 p.m. during the Night of Lights celebration in downtown Fort Wayne.

Watercolor art at Van Wert gallery begins Jan. 24
The Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert, Ohio will host the 147th Annual International Traveling Exhibit of the American Watercolor Society, beginning on Saturday, Jan. 24.
Forty paintings were selected for the traveling show that will have an open house on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. 
Other viewing hours will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Black comedy next for FW’s Arena Theatre Jan. 23-Feb. 7
“The Smell of the Kill” will be the black comedy to be presented at the Fort Wayne Arena Dinner Theatre Jan. 23 to Feb. 7. The production is rated for mature audiences as it tells the tale of three malicious wives, three miserable husbands and three failing marriages.
It will be presented the Friday and Saturdays of Jan. 23-24, Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 6-7, at 8 p.m. each evening. Dinner before the show begins at 7 p.m. Dinner and show is $35. For more information and reservations call 26-424-5622.

Legion  Auxiliary sending care packages to troops
A project collecting and mailing donated items to overseas troops is currently underway through the efforts of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 111. 
In the main hallway of Post 111 is a table with lists of suggested items and a collection box. Anyone wishing to support this project may do so by dropping off items at the Legion Tuesday through Saturday from 11a.m. to 7 p.m.
Deadline is Jan. 28. After the deadline auxiliary members will sort, pack and mail to the troops.

Senior Citizens Dinner Feb. 11
New Hope Lutheran Church, located on the south edge of Ossian, will host a quarterly Senior Citizens Dinner Thursday, Feb. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The event is for those age 55 or older.
Ed Higgins will lead a sing-a-long and Darlene Hackett will play a hammered dulcimer.

FW Philharmonic concerts listed
The Fort Wayne Embassy Theatre and the Rhinehart Music Center at IPFW will host Fort Wayne Philharmonic concerts during February and March.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m. “Wicked Divas,” a pops concert, will be held at the Embassy. The music featured will be from the Tony award winning show “Wicked.” There also will be selections from Gypsy, Ragtime, Titanic and Carmen. The Masterworks concert “Tchaikovsky: Revealed” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. The Masterworks “Beethoven’s Third Symphony” concert also will be held at the Rhinehart Music Center at IPFW on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. the Pops: Great Movies, Grand Piano concert will be held at the Embassy.

Swiss Stichers to meet Jan. 26
Members of the Swiss Stitchers Quilt Guild will meet Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Social Corner at Swiss Village in Berne.
Susan Lesh will be the leader this month. She will do a demo on knitted cowl scarf that anyone can make. Bring a ball of chunky and make your own. One can be made in about 15 minutes.
A review of members’ personal goals for 2014 and the opportunity to write new goals for 2015 will be addressed.
The Heartland Quilters will host the 25th Annual Gathering of Quilters this year. It will be held Saturday, April 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Northern Indiana Event Center (RV & MH Hall of Fame Complex in Elkhart).
Pre-Registration is $20 and includes lunch and a number of special items.

Stuff and Fluff Feb. 9
Stuff and Fluff  will be held Monday, Feb. 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall for ladies to bring that special child in their life for a memorable evening. Their eyes will light up as both make an adorable stuffed animal to take home.
Be sure to wear play clothes since those attending will be doing valentine crafts and enjoying a special treat.

Antique Arms Show Feb. 21 & 22
Members of Conner Longrifles will sponsor the 32nd Antique Arms Show Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds Exhibition Center in Noblesville.
Admission is $7 per person or $10 for a two day pass. The show is devoted to antique arms related items and reproductions representing the period prior to 1900.

Exhibits at FW’s Artlink
Fort Wayne’s Artlink will be showcasing two exhibits from Jan. 23 to March 4.
Rock, Paper, Scissors and the 6th Annual Postcard Sale and Fundraiser will have an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Work by art students from the Memorial Park Middle School will be hung in the Betty Fishman Memorial Gallery. The students in the magnet school from sixth to eighth graders.

Theater Thursday Jan. 15
Theater Thursday, the free movie for adults, will be held on Jan. 15. The movie will  be “Heaven is for Real”, which is rated PG. 
The Bluffton Parks and Recreational Department, Wells County Public Library and Bluffton Regional Senior Circle have partnered together to offer a free monthly movie.  The video will be shown at 10 a.m. at the Wells County Public Library. Free snacks, a 10 minute health info and prizes will be part of the program. Call 824-6069.

Bummie’s Night at Post 111 Jan. 24
On Saturday, Jan. 24 “Bummie’s Night” will be held at the American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Proceeds from sale of food will benefit the Steve Kelly Cancer Relief Foundation. 

Because this event is extremely popular, it is suggested that anyone planning to attend should arrive early.

Kayleen Reusser’s “World War II Legacies: Stories of Northeast Indiana Veterans” program that was planned for Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Ossian branch library has been cancelled due to a family emergency.

Winter party at the Museum of Art
On Friday, Jan. 23, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art will hold a Winter Party from 6 to 9 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by the Alicia Pyle Quartet and refreshments will be by Catablu. Admission is $5 for museum members and $12 for guests.
Exhibits currently viewable at the museum include:

Regular admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students (to age 21) and senior citizens over 65 and $20 for a family. There is a $1 admission fee the last Saturday of each month and admission is free every Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m..

Friends of the Shelter meeting Jan. 12
Friends of the Shelter, the organization that provides support for the Bluffton/Wells County Animal Shelter, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 in the council chambers on the second floor of City Hall at 128 E. Market St.
Items on the agenda include shelter operations and upcoming Spay-Nueter Clinics.

2015 Dog Park keys available
2015 Dog Park keys are on sale in the Clerk Treasurer’s office in City Hall at 128 E Market for $15 for city residents. Keys are $20 for Wells County residents who live outside of the city limits.  Forms can be found online athttp://www.blufftonindiana.net/parks-department/ to fill it out in advance.  Those wanting a key must provide verification that the dog has current vaccinations and parasite preventative. The dog park is located at 805 W. Market St.

Tot Time Jan. 6
The Tot Time special activity on Tuesday Jan. 6 children will make a pine-cone bird feeder.
Tots can come to the city gym for free play time starting at 11 a.m. and stay for the craft that will begin at 11:45 a.m. This is a FREE event! 
Tot Time is held each Tuesday and Thursday from 11-noon to give children a warm place to run and play. For more information call call 824-6069.

Alzheimer’s Support Meeting Jan. 7
The Wells County Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group will meet at the First United Methodist Church, located at 325 W. Washington St. in Bluffton, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
The meeting is intended for caregivers and family members of a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other dementia related diseases.  Those in attendance will also be given the opportunity to share their experiences of caring for their loved one and to ask questions of the other caregivers in attendance. Be sure to wear play clothes since those attending will be doing valentine crafts and enjoying a special treat.  Cost to participate is $20 per child and is open to any age boy or girl. Blackford 4-H Fair Fundraiser Dinner Jan. 16
A Pork Chop and Pork Burger Fundraiser dinner will be held Friday, Jan. 16 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Blackford High School cafeteria before the Blackford vs. Mississinewa boys basketball game.
Cost is $8 for a boneless pork chop dinner or $6 for a pork burger dinner.
Tickets are available from fairborad membets, at the extension office (765-348-3213) or at the door the day of the dinner.
