Kathryn Best, who is celebrating her 100th birthday Sunday, Oct. 13, has 11 great-grandchildren in addition to her five grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
A birthday open house will be held Sunday, Oct. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Heritage of Huntington.

Holiday Craft Bazaar and Farmers Market Nov. 2
The Blackford County Extension Homemakers will sponsor the annual Holiday Craft Bazaar and Farmers Market Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Blackford County 4-H Building in Hartford City.

BBQ and Military Vehicle Show Oct. 12 in Portland
The Museum of the Soldier in Portland will sponsor their annual BBQ Chicken Dinner and Military Vehicle Show Saturday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. -7 p.m. at 510 E Arch Street, Portland.
This event will feature a meal, access to view historical vehicles, living history enthusiast, the chance to meet veterans, friends, entertainment and more.
Tickets are $8 per person and must be purchased in advance. The chicken dinner will be served from 4-7 p.m.

Free Family Fun Day at Embassy Theatre Oct. 13
The Embassy Theatre and ECA are co-sponsoring a free movie day in celebration of ECA’s 60 years and the community’s support.
On Sunday, Oct. 13, families are invited to the Embassy Theatre at 125 W. Jefferson Street for children’s activities at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m. the movie Nanny McPhee (PG) will be shown. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Aurora Theater shooting survivor to speak Oct. 17
On Oct. 17 at 6 p.m., The Rescue Mission will hold its Annual Celebration Banquet at the Landmark Conference Centre in Fort Wayne. 2013 marks The Rescue Mission’s 110th year of serving the needy and changing lives in the Fort Wayne community.
This year Aurora, Colo. theater shooting survivor, Pierce O’Farrill, will be the keynote speaker. O’Farrill, age 29, still has shotgun pellets in his chest and a bullet lodged in his arm. 
Proceeds from the event will go toward provision of comprehensive security systems at the Mission to help ensure the safety of our residents, staff, volunteers and community.  Tickets are still available but seating is limited. Kinder Haus BBQ Chicken Dinner Oct. 18
Swiss Village’s Kinder Haus Day Care will be sponsor a Drive-Thru Chicken Dinner Fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets will be sold by pre-sale only.  The Dinner will include Romers half chicken, applesauce, potato chips, and dinner roll with butter.  Tickets can be purchased for $7 at the Swiss Village front desk, The Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion or Kinder Haus Day Care through October 11, 2013. Dinners can be picked up at the Swiss Village circle drive entrance.
