Dr. Michael Spath: Lords of the Dance TONIGHT!

Dr. Michael Spath: Lords of the Dance will be highlighted Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Creative Arts Center of Wells County. Cost is $5 per person.
Dance, sacred movement, is one of the most ancient and powerful spiritual rituals present in virtually all religious traditions.
In two illustrated presentations, Dr. L. Michael Spath, Religious Studies professor at IPFW, returns to CAC to share images of the sacred dance and their spiritual meaning from various religious traditions. Dr. Spath will discuss Bull-dancing, Lord Krishna and the dance of sacred seduction, the aesthetic poetry of Rumi that underlies the Sufi dance (“whirling dervishes.”)
Two Tuesdays, Jan. 13 and 20 at 7 p.m.; Tickets for both sessions of the two-part program are free with advance registration or $5 same day at the door.

Teen Germanfest Jan. 15
Teens ages 12-18 can join in Germanfest on Thursday, Jan. 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Wells County Public Library.

Mom's Morning Out Jan. 15
At Moms’ Morning Out on Jan. 15, mothers will receive a variety of ideas for simple indoor activities to entertain preschool children.
Jody Heaston, nature speaker and Purdue graduate in Wildlife Science, will show how to reuse items around the house to provide fun games and imagination outlets. “It is amazing what can be done with cereal boxes, milk caps, balloons, blankets and such,” Jody says. She will bring props and pictures so moms can use these ideas at home.
All mothers of infants and young children are invited to attend this week or any weekly meeting of Moms’ Morning Out. They are from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Bluffton Regional’s North Building, 1935 North Main Street in Bluffton, behind Walgreen’s.
Moms’ Morning Out is sponsored by Operation Wellness and the YMCA, so there is no charge and no registration. Toddlers and preschoolers through age five are also invited to enjoy organized play.

Crochet Lessons begin Jan. 16
Bluffton Parks Department will be offer crochet lessons for beginners and advance beginners in the City Hall on Friday nights.
Cost is $10 for three lessons on Jan 16, 23, 30 or Feb 13, 20, 27. Class time is 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. and you will need to bring your own size H crochet hook. Yarn and instructions will be provided by instructor Kathy Gehrett. Call 824-6069 to register, classes fill up fast.

Sign up now for Beginners Knitting Classes
The Bluffton Parks Department is taking registration for a knitting class scheduled for Wednesdays Feb. 4, 11, and 18. Classes will be held in the upstairs of the city hall from 3 to 4 p.m. Total cost is $10 due the first day, and students need to bring their own straight size 10 knitting needles. Call 824-6069.

Eagle Watch at Salamonie Jan. 17
The Salamonie Bird Club and guests will hold an eagle watching field trip Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon or later.
Those attending should meet at the Salamonie Interpretive Center in the Lost Bridge West Recreation Area. People will car pool and travel along the Wabash and Mississinewa Rivers near Peru to look for eagles.
Fill up your tank for a trip of more than 30 miles. Bring snacks, sack lunches and drinks to join the e group. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars. The trip will last until noon. If you need to leave early, please drive separately or with a group who plans to do the same.

Hometown Opry Fundraiser Jan. 17
Hometown Opry Fundraiser will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 at Steve's Landscape/Outdoor Concepts new location at 2275 N. Main Street, Bluffton. Proceeds will benefit Tammy Sark and Hank Esmond families.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Music will start at 7 p.m. There will be live local talent including: Gloryland Express, Arlene Stoller, Ked Moser, Unity, Psalm 100, Denny Meyer and Girls, Frauhiger Girls and more.
The event will be emceed by Mayor Ted Ellis. There will be raffle prizes and concessions available.

Story Session signup begins Jan. 19
Registration for Story Sessions at the Wells County Public Library begins on Monday, Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. Classes fill up fast. The 12-week sessions begin the first week of February. Sessions include:
• Wee Read: up to 24 months with caregiver
• Toddler Time: ages two and three with caregiver
• Story Hour: ages four to six.
There are three ways to sign up. Register in person at the library, by telephone at 260-824-1612, or online.
To register online follow these simple instructions: Log onto www.wellscolibrary.org. Click “Calendar of Events.” Go to the week of Feb. 1, 2009. Click on the program you wish your child to attend. Hoagland Pancake & Sausage Brunch Jan. 25
Hoagland Area Advancement Association will sponsor a Pancake and Sausage Brunch Sunday, Jan. 25, 2008.
Served will be sausage, all you can eat pancakes and drinks at the Hoagland Park Pavilion located at 11320 Hoagland Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults, $2.50 for children ages six through 12 and free for those under age five.

The Bluffton Parks Department wants you to bring the whole family to the City Gym Sunday, Jan. 25th, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for interesting games using pool noodles.

Stuff and Fluff Program deadline is Jan. 26
The Bluffton Parks Department invites girls with either mom, grandma or any other significant female adult will enjoy the opportunity to make their own stuffed animal.
You will choose an unstuffed collectible cuddly friend, hand stuff it, wish upon a special star and insert your wish into your animal and zip it closed. Name your animal on the birth certificate as we celebrate by decorating cup cakes and making crafts.
This event is held Feb. 9, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs of City Hall.

A garage sale will be held Jan. 29 through Feb. 3 at the Senior Citizen Center at 217 Riley Street, Celina to benefit the Mercer County Council on Aging.
Hours on Thursday (first day of the sale) will be until 7:30 p.m. Hours during the week will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hours on Saturday and Sunday will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Spike and the Bulldogs to perform at Boys & Girls Club Silent Auction and Dinner Jan. 31
The Boys and Girls Club will kick off their 2009 Operational Campaign with a dinner and silent auction Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 at Timber Ridge Golf Course.
Social hour will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Dinner will be served from 6 to 7 p.m. and Spike and the Bulldogs will perform from 7 to 10 p.m.
