‘Nutcracker’ at  FW’s Arts United Center Dec. 6-15
The Fort Wayne Ballet’s annual presentation of The Nutcracker will be Dec. 6-15, at the Arts United Center. 
Dates and times are: Friday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 7, 2:30 and 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 13, 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 14, 2:30 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 15, 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are priced at $28 to $45 for adults; $23 to $40 for seniors; $18 to 35 for youth and $15 to $30 for children.
Sugar Plum parties will be held after the Saturday afternoon performances on Dec. 7 and 15 and on Sunday, Dec. 8. Admission is $8.

Festival of trains at Science Central Nov. 29-Dec. 1
The 15th annual Science Central’s Festival of Trains event to be held from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1. 
A variety of train sets will be set up to admire with local train groups on hand to provide details about the exhibits.
While there, visitors also may view the new Science on a Sphere exhibit that showcases an astronaut’s view of the Earth, Mars, moon and the sun.
The gift shop also will be open for educational toys and gifts for purchase.
Hours for the trains are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 30, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1.

Winter Warrenland Nov. 29-30
Winter Warrenland will be held Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30.
On Friday Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. in downtown Warren at the corner of Second and Wayne streets. He will be escorted by the Warren Fire Department.
Santa will oversee the downtown lighting ceremony from 6:15 to 6:30 p.m.
From 6:30 to 6:45 p.m. there will be a Santa Walk, where children of all ages can walk with Santa to the Knight-Bergman Center to participate in the annual lighting of the center grounds and building.
Beginning at 6:45 p.m. Santa will meet and greet children and take their Christmas wish requests. Refreshments of hot chocolate and cookies will be avaiable.
On Saturday, Nov. 30 from 9 to 11 a.m. Santa will be at the Knight-Bergman Center where children will have another opportunity to meet Santa and give him their wish list. 
Children will receive a small gift. Cookies, hot chocolate and coffee will be available.

Christmas at Salomon Farm Dec. 7
Christmas on the Farm will be celebrated at Fort Wayne’s Salomon Farm Park on Saturday, Dec. 7, 1 to 5 p.m. Featured will be a live Nativity, horse drawn wagon rides, a visit form St. Nicholas, live music and more.

A donation of $5 per family is suggested in lieu of an admission fee. More information at 260-427-6005.

Lights of Love Nov. 21
Erin’s House for Grieving Children will sponsor a Lights of Love memorial at Parkview Field in Fort Wayne Nov. 21-30. Sponsored luminaries will be set up around the field. Also viewable will be the 24 foot Tin Caps tree.
There is no admission fee to come and view the lights. Hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. with the exception of Thanksgiving Day. On Wednesday, Nov. 27 there will be fireworks at the field at 7:45 p.m.

Christmas at Salomon Farm Dec. 7
Christmas on the Farm will be celebrated at Fort Wayne’s Salomon Farm Park on Saturday, Dec. 7, 1 to 5 p.m.
Featured will be a live Nativity, horse drawn wagon rides, a visit form St. Nicholas, live music and more.

“A Night of Gilbert and Sullivan” Nov. 21
“A Night of Gilbert and Sullivan” tunes will be performed by Trine University Musical Theatre and Opera Ensemble Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Furth Annex at 205 W. Maumee Street in Angola. This is a free concert.

Headwaters Park ice rink to open Nov. 22
Opening night at the Fort Wayne Headwaters Park Ice Rink will be on Friday, Nov. 22, 5 to 10 p.m.
Admission to skate will be free with skate rental $2.
Other skating times will be: Monday through Thursday, 1 to 8 p.m.; Friday, noon to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 8 p.m. (There will be extended hours Dec. 20 through Jan. 11: Monday through Friday, noon to 10 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.( The rink will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Day.)
Admission is $3 for those 13 and younger, $5 for those 14 and older with skate rental $2. There is free skating for kids every Wednesday with skate rental $2.
Concessions are available at the rink as is skate sharpening.

Singles and Separates Support Group Nov. 27
A Singles and Separates Support Group will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion at 1201 Emmental Drive in Berne . 
Chaplain Mike Wertenberger will be on hand during the meeting. The public is welcome to attend.
The topic will be “How to handle family members and friends, who don’t know how to handle me.”

Holly Trolley Shopping Nov. 30
The Downtown Improvement District (DID) will offer Holly Trolley Shopping on Nov. 30, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. As a special treat, the first 250 riders will receive a keepsake holiday tote. This is a free event.
Families can explore annual favorites like the Festival of Gingerbread, Festival of Trees, Festival of Trains, and many other activities.  Develop a new family tradition with Holly Trolley Shopping as a unique Downtown Fort Wayne shopping experience.  
Joining the trend across the country for “shop local” campaigns, we chose the Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday for Holly Trolley Shopping.  Small Business Saturday is recognized to support small businesses nationwide.  The DID makes shopping local easier with free trolley rides throughout downtown.  Most of the businesses along the trolley route will be offering special holiday items, one-day only discounts or refreshments giving shoppers even more incentive to support our locally-owned retailers and specialty gift shops.   
November 30 is also a free transit day.  Citilink has declared the last Saturday of November a free fare day across the entire city.  

Shopping guides with maps will be available on the trolleys and will be posted on HolidayFestDowntown.com.  Simply park in a garage or lot near your favorite attraction then wait at a trolley stop sign.

Harvest Dinner at Ossian UM Nov. 23
The annual Ossian United Methodist Church Harvest Dinner and Bazaar will be held Saturday, Nov. 23 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the church Family Cneter, next to the post office on the corner of Ogden and Mill Streets. The dine-in and carry-out (no drinks) menu will consist of: baked steak or ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dinner roll, choice of cranberry salad, cole slaw or applesause, pie or cake and beverage. Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children ages five to 10 and free for those under age four. Bazaar and baked items will be available.

Tot Candy Cane Hunt Dec. 3
The next Bluffton Parks Department special tot event is a Candy Cane Hunt held on Tuesday, Dec 3. 
Those attending should meet in the city gym from 11 a.m. to noon to run and play. At 11:45 a.m. the kids will be brought upstairs to find candy canes. This is a FREE drop in parent supervised event. Questions call 824-6069.

Art commission to host web cafe Dec. 5
On Thursday, Dec. 5, the Indiana Arts Commission will host a statewide Web Cafe at 10 a.m. to enlist public input on the next phase of the agency’s Strategic Plan. Arts United in Fort Wayne will host a satellite location at the Auer Center for Arts & Culture, 300 East Main St. in downtown Fort Wayne.
Todd Wetzel, Director of Convocations at Purdue University, will serve as facilitator of the Web Cafe. Those planning to attend the event in Fort Wayne should arrive 15 minutes prior to the session’s start.

Sigma Phi Gamma is once again selling home made black raspberry pies for the holidays. 
The pies are frozen and will need to be baked.

Next Theater Thursday scheduled for Nov. 21 
The next free movie for area seniors will be on November 21st. The Bluffton Parks and Recreational Department, Wells County Public Library and Bluffton Regional Senior Circle have partnered together to offer a free monthly movie for adults. 
The movie will be shown on at 10 a.m. at the Wells County Public Library. Free snacks, 10-minute health info and prizes will be part of the program. For more information call 824-6069

Alzheimer’s support group now meeting in Decatur
On the third Thursday of the month beginning at 4 p.m., caregivers will meet for the Alzheimer’s Association’s support group in Decatur. The next meeting will be held Nov. 21, followed by Dec. 19.
Facilitated by a trained leader, the group meets at Adams Memorial Hospital, Monroe Classroom located at 1100 Mercer Ave. in Decatur.
This Alzheimer’s Association support group meets monthly to provide caregivers with an opportunity to share their experiences and receive support from others coping with Alzheimer’s disease. During the group meetings, caregivers are encouraged to share information, give and receive support, and exchange coping experiences and strategies.
Meetings are open to the public and facilitated by a trained professional and/or family member.
There is no cost or commitment for caregivers to attend.

Children can write to Santa beginning Nov. 25
The Bluffton Parks and Recreation Department is happy to deliver children’s letter to Santa between Nov. 25 and Dec. 20. Each child will receive a personalized letter back with a small gift enclosed. 
Please make sure that the child’s name and address are clearly marked on the outside of the envelope. Santa’s mailbox is blue and located on the front steps of city hall. 
This is a free service and no postage is needed.

Parks Department’s Coloring Contest begins
The Parks Department will sponsor a coloring contest for a chance to win a giant stocking filled with prizes.
Coloring pages have been sent to area schools but can also be printed off of the city’s website at http://www.ci.bluffton.in.us/documents/wintercolorcontest2013.pdf . 
Pages are due back in the parks office in City Hall by Dec 18. Questions call 824-6069.

Indy artist will be at Fort Wayne’s Castle Gallery
Indianapolis “plein-air” painter C.W. Mundy will be showing more than 45 of his paintings at the Castle Gallery in Fort Wayne through Nov. 30.
On Saturday, Nov. 16, the artist, known for his landscapes, will present at gallery talk at 7 p.m. with the open house hours being from 5 to 10 p.m. at the gallery.
Other gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Castle Gallery is located at 1202 W. Wayne St. in Fort Wayne.

Date change for Ashton’s presentation in Portland
Portland’s Arts Place is announcing a change of date for the appearance of Susan Ashton’s Christian and country music program.
The new date is Friday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. Previous tickets will be honored and refunds for the canceled Nov. 9 concert may be requested.

Grabill Christmas Walk will be held Dec. 7
The town of Grabill in northeast Allen County will sponsor an old-fashioned Christmas Walk Saturday, Dec. 7. 
Activities will include Breakfast with Santa in the Fudergong Building and Christmas Storytime at the Library.
The town is also sponsoring a “Stuff a Buggy” campaign for donations to the Grabill Food Bank.  Donate canned foods or make a cash donation. Several of the retail shops will also be offering Christmas specials on that day.
 This is an opportunity for a family friendly Christmas activity and to enjoy an old fashioned walk thru Christmas past.
Breakfast with Santa starts at 8 a.m.  The event is free but tickets are needed. They can be obtained at Grabill Hardware or the General Store in Grabill.

Parks Department’s December Dash 5K Dec. 21
The December Dash 5K (Run it or Walk it!) and the Kids One Mile Jingle Bell Jog with Santa will be held Saturday, Dec. 21 at 8:30 a.m. Stay for hot chocolate and holiday treats after the run. 
Everyone who registers will receive a warm December Dash running hat. Overall and age group awards are available for the 5K and overall top three boys and girls awards for the One Mile.

Eating Healthy For The Holidays Cooking Demonstration Nov. 15
The Arthur and Gloria Muselman Wellness Pavilion will be hosting an Eating Healthy for the Holidays cooking demonstration for any senior age 55 and older on Friday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Wellness Pavilion. 
The cooking demonstration will be provided by Esther Ray, Swiss Village Cooking Expert and meal planning tips provided by Sarah Conrad Wellness Pavilion Director. Samples will be provided.

Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice contest
To celebrate the bicentennial of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, the Huntington City-Twp. Public Library will hold a contest at both the Huntington Main Library and the Markle Branch. 
To enter, answer 10 trivia questions about Jane Austen, her life, her books, and more. The entry with the most correct answers will win. In the event of a tie, the winner will be drawn at random from correct entries. 
The winner will receive a deluxe hardback edition of Pride and Prejudice

Entries must be received by Saturday, Nov. 30. Winners will be notified the following week.

Becky Seeker Benefit Nov. 9
A benefit for Becky Seeker and her family will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the VFW in Geneva. She is a 55 year old mother of three who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.
During the event there will be an auction, dj, karaoke, bake sale, a clown, a 50/50 raffle and more. 
An account has been set up at the First Bank of Berne. Monetary donations may be made at any First Bank of Berne location under the account name Kurston Haines, daughter of Becky Seeker. Sausage Gravy & Biscuit Breakfast Nov. 9
An All-you-can-eat Sausage gravy and biscuit breakfast will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Chester Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, just south of Southern Wells High School. A free will donation will be accepted during the event.

Friends of Shelter meeting Nov. 11
The Friends of the Shelter, the organization that supports the Bluffton/Wells County Animal Shelter, will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11 in the council chambers on the second floor of City Hall.
Topics will include: Discussion and voting will take place regarding an amended mission statement; Approval; of slate of officers; Proposal and discussion for a shelter holiday open house and shelter operations.

Holiday shows at New Huntington Theatre in December
Work continues on the main theater area at the New Huntington Theatre in Huntington while the dates for the Holiday Show have been announced to be presented in the lobby area. Dinner and show tickets are available for the dates of Dec. 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 19 and 20. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. and the show to begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $44 for Saturday and $41 for other days.
The only matinee date available is Saturday, Dec. 12 for the show only. Admission is $25.

Members of the Poneto Firehouse will sponsor a Ham and Bean and Chicken Noodle Soup Dinner Saturday, Nov. 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. 
The menu will include ham and beans, chicken noodle soup, hot dogs (with or without coney sauce), apple dumplings, pies, cakes, cold drinks and coffee.
Free will donations will be accepted with proceeds going to the Poneto Community Club.

Bazaar at Warren United Church of Christ Nov. 9
Warren United Church of Christ hold their annual fall bazaar, “Holiday’s At Our House” Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The church is located at 202 E. Second St., Warren. 
A complimentary snack and hot beverage will be provided from 9 to 11 a.m. Lunch will be served from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. 
There is a Christmas Craft Room, Cinnamon & Spice Nook, Deli & Bakery, Notions and homemade noodles.

Re-Sale at FW’s Artlink Nov. 8
Artlink Artspace in Fort Wayne will sponsor a sale of quality works as well as art supplies at Re-Sale on Friday, Nov. 8, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The sale will continue on Saturday, Nov. 9, from noon to 6 p.m.A wide variety of items will be available including work by local, regional and national artists. The artists have donated their work to Artlink for the sale. Arts supplies also will be for sale. The event is a fundraising benefit for Artlink’s programing.
Regular hours for Artlink are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

‘Man who came to dinner’ at FW’s Saint Francis
‘The Man Who Came to Dinner” will be presented by  the School of Creative Arts at the University of Saint Francis on Nov. 8, 9, 15 & 16 at 8 p.m. and on Nov. 10 & 17 at 2 p.m. at the USF Performing Arts Center, 431 West Berry St. in Fort Wayne.
Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and children 10 and younger with group discounts also available. The box office number is 260-399-8064.

Theater doors will open 30 minutes prior to curtain time.

Jay County Winterfest November events listed
The Jay County Chamber of Commerce, along with several member business sponsors, will host Winterfest in Jay County Indiana starting on Thursday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 24.
Activities will be scheduled throughout for families of all shapes and sizes and people of any age. Visitors are encouraged to come in to Jay County for all of the festivities.
Nov. 18 —Live Nativity, Community Sing and lighting of the Christmas Tree, Voting begins for the Festival of Trees at the Jay County Courthouse.
Nov. 19: Arts Place Benefit Auction
Nov. 20: Kid’s Breakfast and Kid’s Karnival, Holiday Bingo, Free Movie at Ritz Theatre,  Free Carriage Rides, Little Miss Winterfest, Parade of Lights, Santa House open after  the Parade.
Nov. 21: Holiday Home Tours around the county and Taste of the Holiday at John Jay Center.  Sample all the food and drink from Local Restaurants.
