Local Families needed for cultural exchange students
ASSE International Student Exchange Programs, in cooperation with local high schools, is seeking local families to host boys and girls between the ages of 15 to 18 from a variety of countries around the world.

Liberty Center VBS July 29-Aug. 2
Liberty Center Community Vacation Bible School will be held Sunday, July 29, through Thursday, Aug. 2, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

A kick-off picnic will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Liberty Center Park.

Retirement Open House for Bud Abrams July 29
A Community Open House will be held Sunday, July 2,9 from 1 to 4 p.m. in fellowship hall at the First Baptist Church in honor of Pastor Bud Abrams’ retirement.

The public is welcome to attend the event at 202 W. Cherry Street in Bluffton.

Deadline July 31 for senior citizens’ dinner
New Hope Lutheran Church, on the south edge of Ossian, will again host its quarterly senior citizens’ dinner for anyone in the community age 55 or better on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Enjoy a sing along with Ed Higgins and a “Drought vs. Nature” program by naturalist Jody Heaston. A freewill offering dinner will be served by the ladies of New Hope. RSVP 622-7954 by July 31.

Concert in the Park July 31 at Gas City
The Gas City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Gas City Park and Recreation Department will sponsor Concerts in the Park Tuesday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Eugene Linn Band Shell in the Gas City Park. The band, Mix Factory, will entertain the audience.

Preschoolers program at Salamonie, July 18
Children ages 2 to 5 are invited to a morning of learning and water fun Wednesday, July 18 at the Salamonie Interpretive Center at Salamonie Lake. The program will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Children will participate in water activities, bubbles and other fun camping-type activities. Participants should bring a swimsuit or an extra set of clothing. Parents or caregivers are expected to stay with their child throughout the program.

In almost any weather, the program is planned to be both indoors and outdoors, starting at the interpretive center. Participants can bring their lunch to eat together after the event.

There is a $2-per-child fee for the program. The standard property entrance fee will be waived for program attendees.

Cherry Pie to be Auctioned at 4-H July 19
A homemade cherry pie made and donated by Helen Witte of Jefferson Township will be auctioned at the 4-H Livestock Auction July 19.

The cherry pie will be baked in a commemorative 4-H pie plate. Proceeds will go to the Wells County 4-H Foundation for scholarships to be awarded to 4-H members.

The auction will begin at 3:30 p.m., and the sale order will be as follows: dairy, dairy beef, sheep, dairy feeder, goat, poultry, 4-H Foundation, swine, rabbit, and beef.

Engraved Silver Coin to be Auctioned July 19
A silver coin engraved with “2012 Wells County 4-H” will be sold at the 4-H Livestock Auction Thursday, July 19. The coin was donated by Mr. And Mrs. Ron Meyers. Proceeds will go to the Wells County 4-H Foundation for scholarships to be awarded to 4-H members.

Summer Camp at Muncie Children’s Museum July 16-20
The Muncie Children’s Museum Summer Camp will be held July 16-20.

“Super Why!” camp will have curriculum based around the popular PBS KIDS program SUPER WHY! During the five-day camp, children will learn about the alphabet with Alpha Pig, practice words and recognize sounds with Wonder Red, spell with Princess Presto, and read with Super Why!

This camp is for kids ages three to six. Children must be potty trained. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. each morning; camp begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs until noon.

Summer camp registration forms can be picked up from the MCM's front desk or you can print and mail it to the MCM. Registration is due Friday, July 13 at 5 p.m.

The cost to attend camp is $60 per child for MCM members and $70 per child for non-members. The Museum will not be providing child care as it has in the past, but parents are welcome to join their children after camp sessions to explore the museum.

Police Boot Camp Week July 23-27
Police Boot Camp Week will be held July 23–27 from 8 to 11:30 am for students who have completed grades five and six. Register by calling 824-6069 before July 3. Enrollment limited to the first 32 students. Students will learn respect for the American Flag, physical fitness, bike safety, water safety, self discipline and much more. Cost is $10, and scholarships are available.

Scrapbook Club to meet July 23
The Scrap Happy Scrapbook Club is looking for people who love to scrapbook. Bring your friends, supplies and come to the bi-monthly meeeting on the second and fourth Mondays of the month beginning July 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. at city hall. Those attending should enter the glass door on the west side of the building. Cost is only $3 per person and many supplies and ideas are shared. Call 824-6069.

Adult 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament July 28
Any adult interested in participating in the 3-on-3 basketball tournament should come to the Bluffton City gym Saturday, July 28 at 9 a.m. for the second annual tournament.
