What's Up This Weekend

Longaberger basket bingo Nov. 1
A Longaberger Basket Bingo will be held Saturday, Nov. 1 at Southern Wells High School in the cafeteria.
Doors will open at 9:15 a.m. Bingo will start at 10 a.m. Tickets are $20 for 20 games. Extra cards are $5 each. Dobbers are $1 each.
To buy a ticket call Julie Thompson at 260-694-6626 or 260-273-5040. Only if available, tickets will be sold at the door.
There will be basket raffles. Refreshments will be provided. All proceeds will go to fund Southern Wells Athletes.
Those attending must be 18 years of age to play bingo.

Roanoke Harvest Supper Nov. 1
Christ's United Methodist Church at 148 Third St., Roanoke, will serve their annual Harvest Supper Saturday, Nov. 1 from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
The menu will consist of turkey or ham, mashed potatoes, turkey dressing, applesauce, cole slaw, dinner rolls, drinks and pie. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages five to 11 and free for those under age five..
Carry-outs will be available. Delivery is available for shut-ins in the Roanoke community. For delivery call 260-672-2945 before 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008.

Fish and chicken dinner Nov. 1 at Boehmer Church
A fish and chicken dinner will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Boehmer Church at 3467S., 600W., Liberty Center. The meat will be provided by Back Door Concessions. Free will donations will be accepted at the event.
The dinner will include fish and chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, applesauce, bread and butter, assorted cakes and cookies, lemonade, tea or coffee.
All proceeds go to Outreach and Missions at the church.

Tom Harris fundraiser Nov. 1
A benefit will be held for Tom Harris Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 at the Bluffton Moose Lodge 242 at 120 N. Main Street.
A sausage gravy and biscuit breakfast with orange juice or coffee will be held from 8 to 10 a.m.
Texas Hold'em will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Lunch will be served beginning at noon. Food available will be ham and beans with corn bread, sloppy joe sandwiches, pretzels and chips, chili, pop and water.
A 50/50 Raffle will be held throughout the day. The winner will be drawn at 9 p.m. You do not need to be present to win.
Entertainment will be provided from 6 to 10 p.m.
Proceeds will go to Tom Harris to help with medical expenses. Tom resides in Bluffton, a member and past governor of the Moose, with his wife Susie and stepson Pat. He is employed at Pena's in Ossian as a millwright.
He became ill a few months ago with Stage 3 cancer of the lymph nodes. He was also diagnosed as an Insulin Diabetic.

Markle Library offers Paws to Read program Nov. 1, 15
Paws to Read program will be offers at the Markle Library at 197 East Morse Street, Nov. 1 and 15 and Saturday mornings by appointment only
The mission of the program is to improve the literacy skills of children with the assistance of registered canine reading companions in a fun and relaxed environment.
In PAWS-TO-READ, children ages 6-12 participate in one-on-one sessions in which they practice reading aloud to trained therapy dogs. Research with therapy animals indicates that children with low self-esteem are often more willing to interact with an animal than another person. Even more, they are inclined to forget about their limitations. Children involved in PAWS-TO-READ programs nationwide have shown:

Holiday Craft Day Nov. 1 at Salamonie
The Upper Wabash Interpretive Services will feature a Holiday Craft Day Saturday, Nov. 1 at Salamonie Reservoir between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Those attending can purchase a craft kit and make a decoration for their home or a gift for a friend. Two of the crafts are suitable for children to make.
Kits available are a lighted centerpiece for $14.99, wooden reindeer for $5.99, lighted tinsel tree for $5.99 or wooden snowman for $5.99.

Craft Bazaar in Blackford County Nov. 1
The Extension Homemaker's annual Holiday Craft Bazaar will be held Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Blackford County 4-H Building.
There will be many craft booths and lunch available during the event. Admission is free. For more information call 765-348-3213.

House of Hope fundraiser Nov. 1
The House of Hope will sponsor a fundraiser Saturday, Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Villa North Shopping Center at 927 N. Main Street, Bluffton, in the parking lot in front of Education Plus.
There will be free hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade desserts, ballons, games, a concert by Karissa Beer and Cameron Spring at 12:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. and a free testing for students to help determine what they need to maximize their ability to get into college.
There will also be a moon walk, face painting, clowns, cotton candy, car bashing and more.
Donations will be accepted and given to the House of Hope, a Christian, interdenominational, not-for-profit, resident home and school for hurting and torubled teens between the ages of 12-17.

Inside Farmer's Market Nov. 1
An Inside Farmer's Market will be held Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon beside Subway Restaurant in Village North Shopping Center in Bluffton.
Available will be apples, apple cider, honey, produce, handcrafted cards, invitations, announcements, kitchen towels, baby booties, pies, cakes, cookies, brownies, rice kripsy treats, pumpkins, gourds, Indiana corn.

A Celebration of Faith and Joy! concert Nov. 1 & 2
The Wells Community Choir, under the direction of Arlene Stoller, will present a concert of hymns and anthems Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, at 202 W. Cherry Street, Bluffton. The new location. is one block west of Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
There is no admission charge, however, a free will offering will be taken.

Plow Day Nov. 1 at Schaeffer farm
The Wheels of Yesteryear will sponsor a Plow Day Saturday, Nov. 1 beginning at 9 a.m. at Dave Schaffer's place. It is the first farm north of Ossian on State Road 1 on the east side of the road.
Antique tractors will be plowing the fields. Food and drinks will be provided throughout the day.

Total Cheer Fundraiser Nov. 2
Total Cheer Academy's Silver Inferno cheer squad fundraiser for the IALC Nationals will be held Sunday, Nov. 2 at Jack and Johnny's on Wells Street in Fort Wayne. Available will be a steak dinner with sides for $10 and the Colts versus Patriots game on the big screen. Dinner will be served from 5 to 10 p.m.

Christmas Fiction contest deadline Nov. 24
The Commercial Review of Portland will sponsor their 10th annual Christmas fiction contest for area writers.
The contest is open to residents of Jay, Randolph, Adams, Delware, Wells and Blackford Counties in Indianan and Mercer and Darke Counties in Ohio. Former area residents who are subscribers to the Commerical Review may also enter.
First place prize is $250. Selected entries, including the first place winner, will be published in Portland paper's annual Christmas Greetings tabloid supplement.
Original stories with a Chrsitmas theme or setting can be sent to The Commercial Review, P.O. Box 1049, Portland, IN 47371 by Nov. 24, 2008.
Entries should be accompanied by a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage if the manuscript is to be returned.
All entries should be typed, double space, or be a clear computer print out. Dot matrix printer copies are not acceptable. Each entry should bear the writer's name, complete address and telephone number. For more information call 260-726-8141.
